Chris Haueter Scissor Sweep
Chris Haueter started doing BJJ with the Machados (Gracie Family Cousins) long before the UFC was even a thought. As a striker, Chris had an extensive Boxing & wrestling background and had won enough scraps on the street in his twenties that he knew that ignoring the practicalities of real striking and grappling would be a huge mistake. In the late 1980s he set out to learn wrestling as a martial art - realizing how effective it was compared to the softer martial arts.
He went to a local college to learn it and instead he met a Jiu Jitsu guy. They sparred, Chris got demolished and decided he needed to learn it; we've heard the story a thousand times. Chris was different however- he throws himself into everything and he got his blue belt in 8 months and his purple 6 months after that - this is a time (early 90s) when there were no purple belts!
Knee Ride Cross Sides Mount and Back by Chris Haueter
Chris Has 4 Rules To His Grappling:
Conor MacGregor went to Chris’ home to learn from him..
When the UFC came to be he was a purple belt (he stayed a purple for 8 years!) he knew Royce Gracie the Jiu Jitsu Specialist was going to win and he also knew that even he himself could have won - nothing beats BJJ when martial arts are matched strictly.
As time marched on a lot of the Dirty Dozen - the first 12 Non Brazilian Black Belts, of which Chris is a member - felt upset that BJJ grew away from its roots. Not Chris, he loves the new school adaptations to the game and loves thinking about where it where it will go. There is one thing he knows however: The Fundamentals have been largely lost and the fundamentals are the most effective part of BJJ. Having seen it all - Chris says Rickson Gracie would have destroyed any of today's stars with his simple yet effective concepts. Chris studied with Rigan Machado & Rickson for years - while he appreciates the new stuff - his fundamentals are unaffected.
Stacking Spider Guard Pass by Chris Haueter
To show how progressive he is - Chris competes! He doesn't whine about rule changes, even if he disagrees with some of the new rules he competes under them to test his Jiu Jitsu. He's entered 4 World Masters Championships and emerged with 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver that he lost on an advantage. He steps on the mat and does what he was trained to do.
While he's a world champion- that's not what makes Chris so special. He has concepts and techniques that are so efficient and effective that they boggle the mind. You might think you know how to do a rear naked choke properly, but you don't. Even Adult Division World Champions who are stars don't know - that's why they lose submissions so often.
