At black belt he won four medals at the IBJJF World Championship and three European titles, and he has been competing at the IBJJF World Championship since its first edition in 1996. In 2022 he was promoted to coral belt, and he is still winning gold at the IBJJF World Master Championship. He runs his academy in Phoenix, Arizona, and he is the father of Mackenzie Dern. Now he's sharing the guard fundamentals behind that longevity.

In Fundamentals Perfected: Guard, Dias takes you from pulling guard into a butterfly sweep to his own Megaton butterfly, the scissor sweep and how to keep it working when your opponent stands, lapel submissions, the koala sweep and the collar spider. The second volume adds the ghost arm bar, the spider triangle, the omoplata, the ankle knee hook sweep and the spider guard tomoe-nage. This isn't just a guard course, it's a lesson in building your guard on simple, high-percentage details.

Whether you're a white belt learning your first sweep or an experienced competitor in the gi, the guard serves as the place where you turn defense into offense. You'll see how the sweeps and the submissions in this course connect, so a defended attack still leaves you with a second option.

These techniques work because they rely on grips, angles and timing, not on speed or flexibility. Megaton is still winning world titles in his fifties with this game, which tells you how little it depends on athleticism. You'll come away with a guard that keeps your opponent busy defending sweeps and submissions at the same time.

If you've ever wondered why some veteran black belts are so hard to pass and always seem to have a sweep ready, the answer is fundamentals done right. Dias closes the course with the Megaton philosophy that has kept him on the mat and competing for decades.

Learn how to build a guard that sweeps and submits from one of the most experienced competitors in jiu-jitsu history.

What Exactly Do You Get?

Part 1: Butterfly, Scissor Sweep and Collar Spider

Pulling to Butterfly Sweep

Megaton Butterfly

Scissor Sweep

Scissor Sweep When Someone Stands

Lapel Submissions

Koala Sweep

Collar Spider

Part 2: Spider Guard Submissions and Sweeps

Ghost Arm Bar

Spider Triangle

Omoplata

Ghost Arm Bar 2

Ankle Knee Hook Sweep

Spider Guard Tomoe-Nage

Megaton Philosophy
