What Will You Learn?
The Closed Guard is an ESSENTIAL position in BJJ. Having an effective closed guard is crucial across all levels of the sport. 5th degree Black Belt Denilson Pimenta looks to give you a tried and true system that puts you in control of the action, and gives you the ability to combine some of the most effective attacks in BJJ. Overwhelm the opposition with attack sequences that force your opponent to choose between accepting the sweep or being submitted!
Denilson starts the series by giving you a collection of attacks based off of common reactions from the person on top. While in the closed guard your opponent has the benefit of gravity on their side. This leads to a variety of pressure that they can place on your upper body or your legs in an attempt to open your guard. Pimenta shares some of his favorite combination attacks against these common reactions. After some time with the series you’ll be able to be prepared for whatever your opponent throws at you while in the closed guard. Capitalize on these predictive techniques with triangles, kimuras, armbars, and a wide range of sweeps.
Closed Guard is a common position in Jiu-Jitsu. This means the more you are able to combine attacks together the harder it will be to defend. A good closed guard should be able to overwhelm the opposition with a cascade of submissions sequences and sweep attacks. Denilson’s 2-part series focuses on sweeps and submissions that can be easily transitioned to.
Getting to work immediately from closed guard is a must. If you wait too long while in the position your opponent will be able to take control of the action, which makes playing closed guard much more difficult. Denilson’s system is designed to give you go-to techniques that can be easily chained together to create hard-to-defend sequences that eventually lead to you securing a sweep or even better the submission!
