What Will You Learn?

The front headlock is one of the most dangerous places you can put an opponent in all of grappling, and few people have built a game around the cow catcher and the guillotine like Brandon Quick.

Quick is a black belt under Jamie Walsh and the head of the BQuick Jiu-Jitsu Network, based in Texas. He is also a co-owner of the American Grappling Federation, a grappling tournament series. Now he's sharing the cow catcher system he uses to catch the head and finish from almost anywhere.

In Cow Catchers & Guillotines, Quick starts with the core movements and the cow catcher itself, then shows you how to turn it into the cow catcher guillotine, the cement mixer, the 1 and 2 armed mounted guillotine and the guard guillotine. You'll also learn the standing snap down and the takedowns that drop their head, so you can create the position instead of waiting for it. This isn't just a guillotine course, it's a complete front headlock system that connects your takedowns, your passing and your guard.

Whether you're on top passing or on the bottom fighting to come up, the cow catcher serves as the link between your positions. From the top you'll connect the Rau drag, the knee cut and the no hands pass to the cow catcher, use the suicide roll to land in mount or side control, and deal with butterfly and sitting guard. From the bottom you'll hit the chin whip bump sweep, the inverted full nelson, the cow catcher hook flips and the dogfight cow catcher.

This works because so many situations put your opponent's head low: a snap down, a sprawl, a pass, a sweep attempt or a 4 point stance. Quick also shows you what to do when your first attack fails, from the failed cow catcher sprawl pass to the failed north south choke to guillotine, so every miss leads to your next attack instead of a reset, and you spend less energy chasing and more time finishing.

If you've ever wondered why some grapplers seem to find the neck every time an opponent drops their head, the answer is a connected system like this one. Quick also covers the go behind, the short drag, the gift wrap and the cradle against a 4 point stance, plus the anaconda, the side control 1 arm guillotine, the spinning armbar, the kimura and the razor armbar.

Learn how to catch the head with the cow catcher and finish the guillotine from the feet, from the top and from the bottom.
