White Belt Blueprint by Kristian Woodmansee
Your first year of jiu jitsu decides whether the sport starts to make sense or just feels like survival, and few coaches have mapped that year more clearly than Kristian Woodmansee.
- Kristian Woodmansee is an Atos black belt under Andre Galvao, an IBJJF Pan No-Gi champion and No-Gi Worlds medalist, and a coach known for teaching fundamentals with total clarity.
- In White Belt Blueprint, Woodmansee breaks down what a new grappler actually needs: grip fighting, the single leg, the outside trip, guard pulling, closed and half guard concepts, two core passes, and how to hold side control, mount and the back.
- This isn't just a beginner course, it's the order of operations for your entire first year on the mats.

What Will You Learn?
Your first year of jiu jitsu decides whether the sport starts to make sense or just feels like survival, and few coaches have mapped that year more clearly than Kristian Woodmansee.
Woodmansee earned his black belt from Andre Galvao at Atos, won the IBJJF Pan No-Gi title as a black belt and took a medal at the No-Gi Worlds the same year. He did it at rooster weight, which meant he could never lean on size or strength, so every detail he teaches has to work against bigger, stronger partners. Now he's sharing the starting curriculum he wants every white belt to have from day one.
Volume one starts on the feet: fighting for the collar and the sleeve, creating the single leg, hitting the outside trip, flaring the elbow from neutral grips and pulling guard on your terms. From there you get the concepts that keep your closed guard and half guard working instead of collapsing. Volume two moves to the top: neutralizing any guard, the toreando pass, the knee slice pass, and then keeping side control, dominating from mount and controlling the back.
Whether you just walked into your first academy, are coming back after time off, or coach beginners and want a clean way to structure their training, the blueprint serves as a map of what matters now and what can wait.
Because the course is built on concepts instead of a pile of moves, it holds up when your partner does something you have never seen. You'll know where you are, what your goal is in that position and which skill to reach for next, which is exactly what keeps new grapplers from getting flattened and lost in their first rounds.
If you've ever wondered why some white belts improve twice as fast as everyone around them, the answer is usually that someone gave them the right priorities early. The two bonus lessons cover that directly, with why concepts beat techniques and how to set goals that keep you on the mats.
Learn the foundation in the right order and build a game that makes sense from your very first roll.
