What Will You Learn?
Ewan Beaton is a multi-decade Judo practitioner who represented Canada in the Olympics as well as earning a gold medal in the Pan Ams in 1995. As a longtime coach, Ewan has developed a distinctive style of teaching that makes complex Judo concepts much easier to learn and put into practice. Advanced Fundamentals For Competitive Judoka is a 4-part series covering a wide range of concepts that are specifically designed to give competitors the edge in every competition.
The series starts off with one of the most common gripping scenarios that occurs at ALL levels of Judo, the 50/50 position. Since this position is so common it’s important to develop a system of grip fighting, creating movement, and executing throws. Ewan simplifies the process by covering a series of go-to techniques including the gill hook, osoto gari, kouchi gari, uchi mata and more!
Beaton also details the reality of the 50/50 position in that sometimes you will be locked together with an opponent who is simply more dominant from the 50/50. In this section of the instructional, Ewan details how to adapt your gameplan to deal with this scenario by using different grip variations, creating angles, and utilizing ashi waza.
As you continue through the series you will also learn techniques from the Russian grip series, uchi mata action/reaction drills, attacks from the turtle, and much more! If you are looking for a well-rounded approach to Judo that covers the most commonly encountered scenarios and strategies for competitive Judo then Ewan Beaton’s 4-part series is for you!
