Blue Belt Blueprint by Kristian Woodmansee

Most people stall in their first years of jiu jitsu because nobody ever told them what to work on, and Kristian Woodmansee built this course to answer exactly that.

  • Kristian Woodmansee is an Atos black belt under Andre Galvao, IBJJF Pan No-Gi champion and No-Gi Worlds medalist, and one of the clearest teachers of fundamentals in the sport.
  • In Blue Belt Blueprint, Woodmansee breaks down the short list of skills that actually carry a beginner: getting the fight to the ground on your terms, tilting sweeps from three different guards, guard retention, and three passes that connect to each other.
  • This isn't just a beginner course, it's a plan for what to train over your next two years.

What Will You Learn?

Most people stall in their first years of jiu jitsu because nobody ever told them what to work on, and Kristian Woodmansee built this course to answer exactly that.

Woodmansee is an Atos black belt promoted by Andre Galvao, an IBJJF Pan No-Gi champion and a No-Gi Worlds medalist who spent his competitive career at rooster weight, giving up size to nearly everyone he faced. He teaches fundamentals the way someone who never had a physical advantage has to understand them. Now he's putting that curriculum in order for you.

Volume one is about getting the fight where you want it and then sweeping: the fake guard pull to single leg, the collar drag, elite guard pulling, and tilting from De La Riva, reverse De La Riva and collar sleeve, so the same sweeping mechanic works from three guards instead of three unrelated techniques. Volume two flips to the top and the defense: closed guard retention, neutralizing to headquarters, the leg drag, the knee cut, double unders, and drills for side control and back control. This isn't just a beginner course, it's a plan for what to train over your next two years.

Whether you compete or just want to stop feeling lost in class, the value here is the order. Each piece connects to the next, so the hours you put in build on each other.

The course closes with three bonus chapters that almost never make it into an instructional: how to set short term goals, how to drill so the reps count, and how to develop clarity about your own game.

If you've ever wondered why some beginners improve fast while others train for years and stay in the same place, it is usually not talent, it is knowing what to practice.

Learn what to work on, in what order, and why.
