This video starts with Tom breaking down his opponent’s posture. His far side leg is posted on his opponent’s hip. His opponent’s near side arm is captured in an over hook. However Tom extends the over hook arm under his own leg and then connects his two arms. Next he brings his foot to the top of his opponents back in the traditional omoplata position. Note how Tom states the leg on his opponent’s hip give him a lot of extra control. The first submission that is readily available is a wrist lock. DeBlass likes to secure this submission by grapping the palm of his opponent’s hand. Mount is another option available from this position. He posts on his elbow while turning his knees in down to take mount. To finish the omoplata, Tom does not like the traditional finish. For his finish he scoots his hips out. He posts one arm on the mat and grabs ribs on the far side of his opponent. He places his foot on the mat and starts pushing into his partner for a quick tap.
