ArmbarZ A To Z: Juji Gatame by Justin Flores
The armbar shows up in every grappling ruleset on earth, and few people have taken it apart as carefully as Justin Flores.
- Justin Flores is a three time USA National Judo Champion and a member of the US national judo team, a black belt under Fabio Santos, and the coach who cornered UFC champions including Ronda Rousey.
- In ArmbarZ A To Z: Juji Gatame, Flores breaks down the pins that set up the arm, the entries that get you there from mount, from the back and off a snapdown, and the finishes for when the arm is locked shut.
- This isn't just an armbar course, it's a study in holding a person still long enough that the arm has nowhere left to go.

What Will You Learn?
The armbar shows up in every grappling ruleset on earth, and few people have taken it apart as carefully as Justin Flores.
Flores is a three time USA National Judo Champion who represented the United States on the national judo team, wrestled at the University of Nebraska, and earned his BJJ black belt from Fabio Santos in under four years. He also spent years in the corner of UFC champions, Ronda Rousey among them. Now he's sharing the armbar system he built out of all three sports.
You start with the pins, because that is where the armbar is won: the suction crotch, the canto hold, the S mount and the infinity mount. From there Flores walks you through the entries, the Neil Adam's armbar entry, the guard corkscrew, the crossface armbar and the bar half armbar, then the wrestling side of it with the double wrist lock, the snapdown, the slide by and the half uchi mata into juji gatame. This isn't just an armbar course, it's a study in holding a person still long enough that the arm has nowhere left to go.
Whether you train in the gi, no gi or both, juji gatame is the finish that connects positions you already reach to a submission that works on people your own size and bigger.
The last section is built for the moment the arm does not come free. Flores shows the J-Flo finish, the weight of the world finish and the frame the head finish, so you have an answer when the hands are gripped and pulling harder stops working.
If you've ever wondered why elite grapplers finish armbars on opponents who know exactly what is coming, the answer is in the control that happens before the arm ever moves.
Learn how to take the arm from the positions you already hold.
