Conor Calling For A Rematch?
Posted by Fanatics Authors on
No fighter finds themselves in the media more than Conor McGregor. Good, bad, and Ugly it’s all covered. Fight news however, is the type of news that helped him gain legion of fans. People speculating over his next fight, pre fight trash talk, and post fight analysis has made a worldwide star out of McGregor.
McGregor vs Nurmagomedov was always a dream fight before it happened. Arguments about Khabib’s chin, and McGregor’s ground game were blossoming in comment sections across the internet. The fire was fully stoked for when the eventual match was announced.
And then it happened.
Sadly, most of the coverage of the bout was spent on what happened in the minutes immediately after it’s conclusion. Khabib famously leaped off of the octagon stage in a now infamous melee that overshadowed the masterful performance he had over four rounds.
Ready to Enter the System, and DOMINATE the mats?
In those four rounds we saw Khabib’s ground game and takedowns overwhelm McGregor. Although the fight was mainly controlled on the ground, Khabib was able to drop his rival to the canvas with a brutal overhand right. That said, Conor had glimpses of success. Many pundits even gave him a round. At the end of the night Khabib was able to secure a finish from the back.
So are we ready for a rematch?
Conor makes demands and often times is given what he asks for. This is the first clear instance where he is making it clear that he has unfinished business. This is coming off the heels of a speculated fight between Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Mcgregor in July. Talks then fell through with speculation broke that it wouldn’t take place in a main event slot.
If anything you can count on McGregor being interested in the fight. It definitely makes sense on a financial end. The first fight broke UFC PPV records raking in 2.4 million PPV buys. So...here is the Notorious One’s take on it.
From a competitive standpoint many believe that Khabib’s legacy may be better served taking on a foe the likes of Tony Ferguson. However Tony Ferguson seems to be out of commission for the time being.
Oh, don’t forget the Interim Lightweight Championship fight scheduled for UFC 236 between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier. The winner will become Interim champion, and should face off with Khabib after his suspension is served. It’s hard to tell how people feel about Interim belts, but on paper it has always seemed to be the ticket that guarantees a crack at the titleholder. Only time will tell!
