Demetrious Johnson Receives Brown Belt

Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson received his brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on October 17^th, 2018 from his coaches Bibiano Fernandes and Matt Hume. The UFC legend with a record of 27 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw recently lost his title to Henry Cejudo in a very technical and entertaining match. This loss was quite surprising because the last time the two fought, Johnson won by TKO in the first round. Demetrious earned the flyweight championship title in 2012 against John Dodson in an inaugural fight to create the division.

In defeating Ray Borg in October of 2017, Demetrious made history with his 11^thstraight title defense. Some, including myself, consider Mighty Mouse to be the pound-for-pound best fighter ever. I specifically enjoy watching him because not only is an extremely successful fighter, but offers a level of entertainment so few other fighters can. For example, below you will see a video of Johnson finishing one the coolest submissions to ever be seen in the cage.

Interestingly enough, Demetrious Johnson was still technically a white belt when he faced Wilson Reis, a black belt, in April of 2017. Johnson was able to submit Reis via armbar to secure the win. It is obviously important to say punching someone in the head dozens of times makes submitting them a bit easier.

Johnson’s head Jiu Jitsu instructor, Bibiano Fernandes is a 4^thdegree Black Belt and successful MMA and BJJ competitor himself. Fernandes is expected to fight against Kevin Belingon at ONE Championship 78 in November 2018.

I am excited for Johnson’s future in both MMA and BJJ and expect a rematch with Henry Cejudo. Congratulations to Demetrious Johnson on his new belt!
