IBJJF European Jiu-Jitsu Championships Adult Female Results

On January 14-20th, in Lisbon, Portugal, the IBJJF hosted their European Jiu-Jitsu Championships.  This was their 16th IBJJF European Championships.  This event is one of the largest (in 2018 there were over 4,000 registered competitors from over 70 countries) and most important events for the IBJJF year, and is considered one of the “Grand Slam” events.

In the Adult Female divisions, there were a number of exciting matches and new champions.  Of special note was the Lightweight winner, Charlotte Von Baumgarten who defeated division favorite Bianca Basilio in a close final, by a score of 2 to 0.  Charlotte first started training BJJ in Berlin, where she was also a full time veterinarian. As a result, she was unable to focus on training and competing, until she decided to move to Madrid and train at the Mathias Ribeiro Academy.

Nathiely de Jesus also had a great weekend, as she won double golds by tinning the Adult Female Heavyweight and Absolute divisions.  Nathiely de Jesus, who is also the current IBJJF 2018 Gi and No Gi World Champion, defeated Claire-France Thevenon in the finals by toehold, and Luiza Monteiro by advantage (4 to 4 score) in the finals of the Absolute division.

Nathiely de Jesus Biography

Nathiely was born on February 10, 1996 in Itapira, Sao Paulo, Brazil.  As a teenager, she struggled with bronchitis, and a doctor suggested that she begin a vigorous physical activity to help out her condition.  

At the doctor's suggestion, her parents enrolled judo, and then a year later she began training Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu at coach Claudio Felix's academy in Sao Paulo.  At this academy, Nathiely became an avid jiu jitsu competitor, competing in her first competition after only 3 months of training. She earned her blue and purple belts from Felix,  and was able to win a number of tournaments at both blue and purple belt. However, in late 2013, she visited her boyfriend, Manuel Ribamar (another highly accomplished current black belt competitor) gym, the famed Cicero Costha's gym (academy where world champions such as Leandro Lo, Miyao brothers, and Luiza Monteiro trained at).  After a series of "eye opening" training sessions, Nathiely decided to officially join the gym in January of 2014.

At the famed Cicero Costha gym (Projeto Social Lutando Pelo Bem, or PSLPB for short) , her competition success skyrocketed.  As a purple belt, she won championship titles in the Brazilian Nationals, Pan Americans, and the Worlds. As a brown belt, she was even more successful, as she won double gold (weight class and absolute) at the IBJJF World Championships, and she was promoted on the podium (June 3, 2016) by Cicero Costha.
