In this video Bruno Malfacine explores a balloon sweep. He starts with a grip on the collar and then applies the De La Riva hook. Malfacine spends some time discussing the importance of not leaving a space in the De La Riva hook.  Bruno states that a good measure of space is being able to see his own toes. Ultimately, the goal of the hook is to turn your training partner’s knees inward. Next Malfacine controls the elbow on the same side as the De La Riva hook. Notice how he pushes his opponent’s arm in and then brings his head to their shoulder to bump his opponent. He leverages the momentum from the bump and uses his hook to roll them over.

This video is a wonderful example of Bruno’s ability to communicate technique to even novice grapplers.  Like all of Malfacine’s instructional videos, there is a lot of detail.
