In this video Bruno Malfacine shows a great sweep against bigger opponents. For most of us there will always be a bigger grappler. I must admit that I was anxious to see it. He starts off in butterfly guard. He has an under hook on his opponent and is grabbing the belt. He spends some time discussing head placement. He notes that it is imperative for his head to be under his opponent’s chin. He grabs his opponent’s pants near the knee with his free arm. He now is in positon for the sweep. Yet he disguises his intentions by pushing into is opponent. When his opponent pushes back three things occur at once. Bruno does a technical stand up while pulling on the pants leg and pushing with the under hook. He now has top position.
This video is a wonderful example of Bruno’s ability to communicate technique to even novice grapplers. Like all of Malfacine’s instructional videos, there is a lot of detail. I know that I often gain new insights every time I re-watch one of his videos. Bruno Malfacine’s instructional videos have a powerful impact on anyone who makes a careful study of them.
