While running his school, Carlos Machado would also compete at some of the first world-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments. These tournaments include the 1997 and 1998 Pan Americans, The 98 and 99 US Open.

Carlos Machado even competed at ADCC 1998 with a broken foot and managed to earn the fastest submission at that year’s competition.

Carlos Machado’s Fight List

There is no official record of who Carlos Machado competed against during his competitive years as BJJ competitions were still in their early years and record keeping was not as effective as it is now.

Carlos Machado's Best Fight of All Time

Carlos Machado’s most impressive fight and performance came at ADCC 2000 where he competed with a broken foot.

In the tournament, Carlos Machado faced off against Arystos Aleksandridi, a grappler from Ukraine. This match lasted less than a minute with Carlos Machado initially going for a collar tie on his opponent who dove for a single leg and tried to duck into the back. This caught Carlos Machado off guard but he was very easily able to turn to his back and put the Ukrainian into his guard

The Ukrainian then stood up while still in Carlos Machado’s guard Machado was able to get a 2 on 1 on one of Arystos’ arms. This allowed Carlos Machado to set up a triangle. The Ukrainian panicked and slammed Carlos Machado to the floor to try to break the hold but this only allowed the Brazilian to more effectively lock in the hold. Carlos Machado was then able to fully lock up the hold and submit his opponent even while he was still on his legs.

This ended up being the fastest submission of the tournament that year and it would remain the fastest in ADCC’s records for a while. Did we mention that Carlos Machado did this all while having a broken foot?

Who Did Carlos Machado Lose to?

Since there is not much of an official record for us to pull information from we can’t know for sure who Carlos Machado lost to. We do know that he did not win in the 2000 ADCC tournament but we are not sure who he lost to.
