Pedro Sauer started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 15 as he was a family friend of the Gracies. The legendary Rickson Gracie invited him to train with him along with Royler Gracie. After that training session, Pedro Sauer believed that BJJ was the most effective martial art of them all.

Pedro Sauer then began training under Rickson and Helio Gracie and earned his black belt in 1985. Later in 1990, Pedro Sauer would quit his job as a stockbroker and move to the US, specifically California, to train with Rickson, Rorion, and Royce Gracie along with the Macado brothers.

Pedro Sauer then relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah to open his own gym. This gym became famous for having Pedro Sauer issue open challenges to anyone who was willing to take him on in a no holds barred fight. Pedro Sauer did this so he could prove the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu against anyone. Pedro Sauer defeated all the challengers that took him on.

Pedro Sauer’s Fight List

Pedro Sauer has no official fight list as he did not compete in any documented competitions like the ones we have today.

Pedro Sauer's Best Fight of All Time

Pedro Sauer was issued many challenges from martial artists of other styles during his time in Salt Lake City Utah however the most famous is the one he had against Lance Batchelor, aka Mr.Utah.

The fight started standing with Pedro Sauer using his Taekwondo skills to kick at the legs of his massive opponent. Pedro Sauer was even able to use his boxing to land some solid lead hooks on Batchelor. After getting beat up on the feet for a little, Lance Batchelor bull-rushed Pedro Sauer and brought the fight to the floor. While Batchelor didn’t know this at the time, this was the beginning of the end for him.

As Batchelor took Pedro Sauer to the floor, Sauer was able to secure a butterfly hook as he was falling down. However due to the size and momentum of Batchelor, Sauer was unable to sweep, however, Pedro Sauer still had the ability to put the massive bodybuilder inside his full guard.

Lance Batchelor tried to posture up to throw some ground and pound but Pedro Sauer was able to thoroughly control him from the bottom. Eventually, Pedro Sauer was able to secure an armbar from the full guard and submit Mr.Utah in front of a packed crowd in his gym.
