The Godoi Side Control System by Roberto Godoi

Roberto Godoi began training in Jiu Jitsu in 1988, he joined up with the famous wildman Marcelo Behring where he trained for a year. As a Purple belt Roberto started his own Jiu Jitsu club at the back of his mother's place where he began teaching his own students. Roberto still trained under Perez, as one of his high school friends Jorge "Macaco" Patino joined up with them.

In 1994 Roberto partnered up with Jorge Patino and Waldomiro Perez as they opened an affiliate club of Cia Paulista. After one year Roberto and Jorge decided to cut ties with Perez and Cia Paulista. Roberto and Jorge focused on their international careers as they both began fighting inside the cage. Roberto started “Godoi Jiu Jitsu” and as the pair split, a lot of their Black belts followed Roberto Godoi, Guys like Marco Barbosa, Roberto Tozi and Bruno Frazatto. Jorge Patino was extremely upset as their rivalry grew and their tensions spilled over onto the mats. There were many harsh words traded between the two rival coaches as they tried to cement their grip on the competition as the number one academy.

Roberto and Jorge’s rivalry ramped up, as an inevitable showdown was apparent between the two Black belts. The pair would square off on the competition mats twice over the years, as the ledger was squared at one win a piece. Jorge would win the first fight by an advantage, while Roberto would win the second match in the final of the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals with a sweep in the final few moments. Roberto also secured many other Silver and Bronze medal positions at various IBJJF events. In 2013 a bunch of Black belt professors got together and founded G13 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. They all had the belief that there is no old or new Jiu Jitsu but just solid foundations, with this concept in mind they built a formidable World Class Jiu Jitsu team. Over the years they have had many great names who have helped to contribute to the success of G13, guys like; Wilson Reis, Rodrigo Ribeiro, Charles Faria, Fernando Margarida, Roberto Tozi and Marcos Barbosa.
