ADCC Spotlight: Alec Baulding

The ADCC World Championships are coming up this weekend, so now seems like a good time to shine a spotlight on our BJJ Fanatics family members who are competing.

First up is Alec Baulding.

Baulding is a Georgia native who found his way to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after a short stint in taekwondo. He began training under Robert Shaw. However, when Shaw's academy closed its doors, Baulding joined Alliance Jiu Jitsu Academy under Shaw's professor, Romero Cavalcanti.

Baulding earned all of his belts from Cavalcanti, with his black belt coming in 2015.

Baulding began making a name for himself even before earning his black belt. As a purple belt, he won first place in the IBJJF World Championship and Pans Championship in 2010. Then, as a brown belt, Baulding continued his dominance, winning first place in the IBJJF Atlanta Winter Open and second place in the Pans Championship in 2015.

That success has continued as a black belt, with Baulding winning the 2018 ADCC Trial Championship.

Baulding currently works at Valhalla Jiu Jitsu in Sweden, but had previously worked at Alliance Martial Arts and Alliance Headquarters.

You may also know Baulding from his social media presence. In addition to his DVD series Keeping the Guard: How to Avoid Your Guard Getting Passed, Baulding has dozens of videos on YouTube, from tips on techniques to BJJ etiquette.

At the upcoming ADCC World Championships, Baulding is competing in the -88 kg weight class.
