Eddie Bravo Invitational Combat Jiu Jitsu

,

On February 23, 2018, the Eddie Bravo Invitational Combat Jiu Jitsu event was held at the Florentine Gardens in Los Angeles, California.  Combat Jiu Jitsu is a concept conceived by 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu founder, Eddie Bravo. It is a blend of grappling and striking, with rules allowing fighters to use open hand slaps to any part of their opponents when the fight is on the ground.  While on the feet, standard grappling rules apply with no strikes allowed.

This event featured a 4-man absolute combat jiu jitsu bracket, as well as an 8-man qualifier for the EBI 19 - 16 man bantamweight tournament.  There were also super fights including multiple time world champion Beatriz Mesquita versus EBI veteran Kayla Patterson.

When this event was first announced, the fighters invited for the absolute division were former world champions Fabricio Werdum, Vinny Magalhaes, Gordon Ryan, and Josh Barnett.  However, by the event, all four original competitors had dropped out, leaving world champion Yuri Simoes, Stephen Martinez, Jon Blank, and Kevin Casey to take their place.

The big winners of the event was ADCC and IBJJF World Champion Yuri Simoes, winning the absolute tournament, by first defeating Stephen Martinez by overtime ride time, and then tapping out Jon Blank by kneebar in the finals.  In the Bantamweight tournament, Richard Alarcon won three matches, including defeating Brandon Moreno by overtime ride time to win and qualify for the EBI 19 tournament. In the superfight, ADCC and IBJJF World Champion, Beatriz Mesquita defeated Kayla Patterson by armbar.
