Old School Vs. New School Clash In Australia!
Middleweight Championship Fight Cancelled
UFC 234: Whittaker vs. Gastelum, took place on February 10, 2019 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. The main event was supposed to be a UFC Middleweight Championship bout between the current champion Robert Whittaker versus The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen middleweight winner Kelvin Gastelum. However, a few hours before the start of the event, news broke out that Robert Whittaker was pulled from the card at the last moment due to a Hernia issue, that he had to have immediate surgery on. This led to the Anderson Silva versus Israel Adesanya fight to become the new main event.

Former champion and mixed martial arts legend, 43 year old Anderson Silva, currently the #15 UFC middleweight, took on 29 year old, #6 ranked UFC Middleweight, Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya in this new main event. The match proved to be an exciting back and forth stand up fight, with both fights landing punches and kicks on each other, as well as showboating to the crowd's delight. It was a closely contested match, with Adesanya hurting Silva in the first round with a short right, amd Silva bouncing back and winning the second round. However, in the end, Adesanya landed more strikes, and won a unanimous decision with scores of 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28. With this win, The Last Stylebender improved his mixed martial arts record to 16-0, with the legend and future hall of famer, Anderson Silva's record dropping to 34 wins and 9 losses (with a UFC record of 17 wins, 5 losses, and 1 No Contest- which occurred when his unanimous decision over Nick Diaz was overturned when he tested positive for PED's drostanolone and androsterone in 2015).
Ricky Simon versus Rani Yahya
In a bantamweight match up featuring two top fighters, former 66 kilogram winner at the 2007 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships, and #15 ranked Rani Yahya, (26-10 MMA, 11-4 UFC) had his three fight winning streak (all by submissions) snapped when Ricky Simon (14-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) won a unanimous decision with a score of 30-27, 30-27, and 30-25. Simon was able to land hard punches and kicks to Rani throughout the fight, one of which nearly knocked him out. Additionally, the ADCC champion was never able to impose his grappling ground skills as Simon was able to stop all 10 of Yahya's takedown attempts during the fight.
