Charles "do Bronx" Oliveira  Biography:

Charles is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Jorge Patino of the Macaco Gold Team.  Charles lived in the Favelas (slums / shantytowns of Brazil), which is sometimes referred to as "Bronx", and he was subsequently nicknamed Charles of the Bronx - "do Bronx" from his teammates.

Charles was born on October 17th, 1989 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  At the age of 12, he was invited to train at a local academy under Roger Coelho.  However, having been raised in poverty and living in the Favelas, Charles was unable to afford the BJJ tuition- until his uncle, Paulo, asked the instructor (who he knew) if Charles could train for free.  Under Coelho, Charles received his blue, purple, and brown belts, and was able to become a successful  BJJ competitor until he focused his career on Mixed Martial Arts in 2008.  Prior to that change, he was  the Sao Paulo State Champion (2007 blue belt), the CBJJE World Champion (2007 blue belt, weight and absolute), and the CBJJE South American Champion (2008 purple belt).

Charles Fights MMA:

In 2007, Charles fought his first amateur MMA tournament in Brazil called the "Circuito de Vale Tudo Amador" which he won by armbar.  In 2008, he fought even more mma events, and decided he needed to join the Macaco Gold Team, under Jorge Patino (a Brazilian MMA legend- having fought the UFC and Pride Bushido, with 58 total fights and best known for his battles with Jose "Pele" Landi-Jons and his KO win over Jacare - in Jacare's first fight) , to further his MMA career.

Since 2008, he has fought a total of 35 fights, with 26 wins (6 by knockout, 18 by submission, and 2 by decision), and has 8 losses (4 by knockout, 3 by submission, and 1 decision), and 1 no contest - Oliveira hit Nik Lentz with an illegal knee during their fight at the UFC Live: Kongo vs. Barry event on June 26, 2011.  The knee went unnoticed by the referee and Oliveira submitted a dazed Lentz moments later with a rear-naked choke.  After further review, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission overturned the win and declared it a no contest.
