UFC Veterans Have Standout Performances

UFC Fight Night 144 - Assuncao versus Moraes 2 took place on February 2, 2019 at Derrinturn, Bingo Hall in Fortaleza, Brazil.  The main event featured a rematch between Raphael  Assuncao and former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) Bantamweight Champion Marlon Moraes.  The two had previously met in June 2017 at UFC 212 with Assuncao winning the fight by split decision.   In recent rankings, Assuncao was ranked as high as #3 in the official UFC bantamweight rankings, with Moraes following right behind, being ranked #4 in the official UFC bantamweight rankings.  But in this fight, the rankings would not matter as Moraes was able drop Assuncao with an overhand right and then lock up a guillotine when Assuncao attempted to get up at 3:17 of the first round.

In the co-main event, former UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo faced rising star and #5 ranked UFC featherweight Renato "Moicano" Carneiro.  Carneiro was also the former interim Jungle Fight Featherweight champion and came into the fight with a stellar 13-1 record, with a UFC record of 5-1, with his lone loss to #1 featherweight contender Brian Ortega.  However, 32 year old Jose Aldo, often referred to as the greatest featherweight in Mixed Martial Arts history, was able to defeat the 29 year old rising star by way of TKO (punches) in :44 seconds of the second round.  After a competitive first round, Aldo landed an overhand left and then a body shot to hurt Carneiro in the second round.  After, he rushed him with a flurry of punches against the fence, and the referee was forced to jump in and save him from any further damage.
