What Fight Fans Can Expect From Cowboy Cerrone Vs Tony Ferguson

UFC 238 takes place Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the United Centre in Chicago, Illinois and features two title fights headlining and co-headlining the UFC's return to the Windy City.
At the top of the card, we have reigning UFC Flyweight Champion and 2008 Olympic Freestyle Wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo taking on Brazilian finish machine Marlon Moraes for the newly vacated UFC Bantamweight Championship.

Cejudo is coming off of two of his biggest wins of his career as he decisioned future UFC Hall of Famer and record holder Demetrious Johnson. As well as steamrolling former Bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw by TKO at :32 seconds of round 1 back in January. As we all know, Dillashaw tested positive for EPO in tests before and after the fight. Cejudo will attempt to pour salt in the wound of Dillashaw to become another Champ-Champ in the UFC.
Moraes is on a 4 fight win streak himself against top contenders at Bantamweight since coming over from World Series of Fighting(now the PFL). In his past three fights, Moraes has ran through the likes of Aljamain Sterling (first round KO, knee), Jimmie Rivera (first round KO, switch kick and punches), and former opponent Raphael Assuncao (first round, guillotine choke).
There is no doubt this is a marquee Bantamweight title fight, looking forward to this one.
In the night's co-main event, we have reigning UFC women's Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko taking on #1 Flyweight contender Jessica "Evil" Eye.
Shevchenko is coming off a dominant win against former Strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk via unanimous decision where she secured the Flyweight title after only her second fight in the division.
"Evil" Eye set her spot atop the Flyweight division with 3 decision wins in a row over the upper echelon of the newly developed Flyweight division.
This is a fun fight for many reasons, however I suspect the reigning champion to be too much for Eye, in my respectful opinion.
Now. Let’s talk a real fight fans fight. The people's main event. The guarantee for one thing and one thing only: Violence.
Tony Ferguson versus Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is a match made in UFC hardcore fans heaven. It is the kind of fight that makes even the most casual fan go crazy, Let’s dive in.
Between both men in this proclaimed "People's Main Event" they share a total of 46 finishes (yes, 46).
Tony Ferguson has a record of 24-3 with 8 submission wins. Two by RNC, 3 by his patented D'Arce choke, 2 triangle chokes and 1 Von Flue choke. He also holds the honour of The Ultimate Fighter season 13 Lightweight champion, has a decorated college wrestling resume, and a 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu black belt under none other than Eddie Bravo. "El Cucuy" holds notable submission wins over Kevin Lee, Edson Barboza and Lando Vannata.
Ferguson's constant forward pressure and unorthodox movement along with dynamic striking attacks has devastated many of the UFC's elite to put him on a staggering 11 fight win streak against top competition within the UFC lightweight division. In his most recent fight he made former champion Anthony "Showtime" Pettis quit after a swarm of strikes which lead to Pettis fracturing his hand and his corner calling the fight after round 2.

There is no question Ferguson's win streak as well as his amplified fighting style has made him a fan favourite. However, the man he is fighting is a walking, living, active legend.
Enter Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone.
The UFC legend holds the records for: Most wins in UFC history (23), Most finishes in UFC history (16), Most post fight bonuses (17). Cowboy has a record of 36-11 with 17 submissions including 8 triangle chokes, 4 armbars, 5 Rear Naked Chokes, and holds a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt.
Mostly recognized for his devastating knockout finishes, (which he has 10 of, by the way) against the likes of Matt Brown, Rick Story, Patrick Cote, John Makdessi, Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira. His BJJ game speaks volumes and is mostly overlooked albeit he has notable submission wins over Evan Dunham, Alex Oliveira, Dennis Siver, Edson Barboza and Mike Perry. Since Cerrone returned back to Lightweight back in January of this year, he has gone 2-0 against up and coming phenom Alexander Hernandez and most recent #4 ranked lightweight contender "Raging" Al Iaquinta by unanimous decision.
In closing, this fight could not come at a better time for both men. Ferguson is coming off of a layoff stemming back to October 6, 2018 and is very enthused at getting that title which is beyond warranted after the streak he has been on. With Cowboy, he is on a much shorter winning streak and especially a shorter layoff having just fought in May of this year but seems to have some serious firepower behind him since not only returning to the Lightweight division but more importantly having his son, Dacson Danger Cerrone.
This fight cannot disappoint. Rather it is a stand up fight with high kicks, elbows and spinning techniques aplenty, or perhaps a wrestling and/or BJJ clinic that takes place, either way this fight is the definition of what hardcore fight fans want and need: Controlled. Calculated. Unfiltered. VIOLENCE.
