In 2017 as a Purple belt, Giancarlo made the move to Rio De Janeiro Brazil, in search of living the essence of Jiu Jitsu. Giancarlo became friends with the world class competitor, Gutemberg Pereira and began training with him at GF Team. After several months training with GF Team, Gutemberg Pereira moved to Toledo in the United States of America and invited Giancarlo to join him. Giancarlo followed Gutemberg to the States as he continued with his training, and his aspirations for starting a professional career in grappling. Giancarlo moved with his father to Charlotte in North Carolina, where he began training at Alliance under one of the most influential grapplers of today's generation, Lucas Lepri. Giancarlo spent an extensive period of time training under the 10 x World Champion and by 2018 Giancarlo was awarded his Brown belt.
Winning Fundamentals: Guard Passing by Giancarlo Bodoni
Giancarlo was becoming a prolific competitor, as he started reaching the podium at prestigious events like the European Open and the Pan American Championships. Giancarlo was gaining momentum in his grappling career, and half way through 2019 he was offered a job by one of the pioneers in the sport. Four time World Champion and founder of BJJ Fanatics Bernardo Faria offered Giancarlo a position teaching at his academy in Massachusetts. Giancarlo accepted the offer and began working at Bernardo's Alliance academy in Bedford. Training alongside Bernardo was where Giancarlo raised his game and began winning prestigious events. He won the 2019 IBJJF NoGi World Championship in his weight class, and finished third in the Absolute division. Giancarlo also placed second at the IBJJF World Championships in the Gi as he stamped his authority on the competition.
In 2020 Giancarlo competed at the Pan American Gi Championship, winning his second big prestigious tournament. In October of 2020 Giancarlo was awarded his Black belt by Lucas Lepri in a ceremony held in Charlotte, North Carolina. At the end of 2020 Giancarlo competed at his first event as a Black belt, the NoGi Pan American Championships. Giancarlo made it through to the final in the 92 kg division and the quarter final in the Absolute division, as he was defeated by Lucas Barbosa 2 - 0 in both divisions. Giancarlo was showcasing his tremendous heart and ability to match it with the best grapplers on the planet.
In 2021 Giancarlo fought against top level competitors like Tex Johnson, Diego Ramalho, Nathan Mendelsohn and Pedro Marinho. He won Gold at the New Orleans Open in the Gi and in NoGi, he also won Silver in the Absolute Gi division, and he collected another Silver at the Orlando Open. Heading back to the NoGi Pan American Championships, Giancarlo was determined for retribution. He defeated guys like Yuri Santos, Romulo Caiado and Bruno Matias before facing Lucas Barbosa in the 91 kg final. Giancarlo avenged his loss with a referee decision win as he was crowned Champion. In the Absolute division Giancarlo was defeated by Lucas Barbosa once again and after the event he suffered a string of losses against guys like Vagna Rocha, Kaynan Duarte, Mason Fowler and Jorge Escudero. Giancarlo won 7 matches in a row as he took out the ADCC East Coast Trials defeating Elder Cruz in the final. So far this year Giancarlo has won a super fight at Fight 2 Win 193 against Felipe Costa and placed second at the Dallas NoGi Open.

Giancarlo Bodoni's path in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been one of relentless pursuit and uncompromising dedication. He was introduced to Martial arts at an extremely young age and found his calling in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of 12. Giancarlo Bodoni grew up in Miami in the United States of America. He was introduced to Martial arts at an extremely young age, and by the time he was 5 years old he was already training in Karate. Later he would also study Taekwondo as he started competing in both combat sports for a brief period of time. At the age of 12 Giancarlo discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and every day he would walk to training after school, and after a few classes he was hooked into the lure of grappling. Giancarlo was a product of the highly regarded Alliance team as he was initiated by one of the most respected figures in the BJJ community in Rillion Gracie. Giancarlo formed a bond with the Gracie soldier as Rillion was there by Giancarlo's side through all of his promotions up to his Purple belt. Giancarlo spoke about how Rillion Gracie was one of his most influential role models growing up through the Jiu Jitsu system along with guys like Lucas Lepri and Bernardo Faria.

In an extremely close final Giancarlo was awarded the referee decision win after the pair were tied on points, as Giancarlo was crowned the IBJJF Pan American Champion for 2021. Giancarlo would have his best win in 2019 as a Brown belt. He entered the IBJJF World NoGi Championships, winning the prestigious title. His world championship win was a major factor going into his promotion to Black belt.

He has been submitted by;Pedro Marinho (Guillotine) at the Orlando NoGi Open final, Tex Johnson (Outside Heel Hook) at the Orlando NoGi Open Absolute final, Diego Ramalho (Foot Lock) at the New Orleans NoGi Open Absolute Semi final, Jorge Escudero (Outside Heel Hook) at the Miami NoGi Open final and Nick Ronan (Inside Heel Hook) at the Emerald City Absolute Semi final. Giancarlo spoke in an interview about his toughest opponent being Ronaldo Junior from Atos, as the pair fought at the NoGi Worlds where Giancarlo lost the fight by a 50/50 sweep after being ahead on points. Giancarlo has also lost to other high level athletes like;Vagner Rocha, Kaynan Duarte, Lucas Barbosa, Michael Liera and Mason Fowler.

Giancarlo Bodoni's Injuries!
Giancarlo Bodoni has suffered from a few injuries throughout his career. His worst was a fractured L5 vertebrae and two slipped discs, luckily Giancarlo did not need surgery, he just took some time off to heal from his extensive injury. His rehabilitation was excellent as he is now fully recovered and has no hint of any back issues. Giancarlo is extremely lucky as that kind of injury can become an ongoing issue with a high intensity sport like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
