They often struggled without electricity and little water to survive, as the whole town would line up at the well for water every morning. Although times were incredibly tough, the community in Georgia always pulled together and helped each other survive. Growing up, Irakli would compete in Water Polo events for 6 years until he was 12, he also was heavily involved in traditional Georgian dance and played the violin. After a tragedy that caused the passing of his Auntie and her family, Irakli and his family received some money and decided to start a new life in the United States of America.

Irakli and his family moved to the centre of Hollywood in 1998, where they had to learn English rather quickly. At the age of 19 Irakli did not like the US as he missed the Georgian community back home. For the next 6 years Irakli hung around people from Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, making life significantly harder with the English barrier continuing. Irakli's parents bought an apartment building in Pasadena, where they moved to, and managed the building. At the time Pasadena was engulfed with gang members, violence and drugs. After a while Irakli had managed to drive away all the bad dealings leaving nothing but a good community.

Irakli was married and had 6 kids, 4 boys and two girls. He had a huge family to feed and entertain. One day he was driving with his daughter Serafine as she noticed a Karate school and asked her father if she could attend. Irakli agreed and brought his kids into the dojo. While he was there he met the head instructor Alberto Crane, who explained to Irakli that the academy was a Jiu Jitsu school. Alberto told Irakli he wanted him to try the art because he could see in his eyes that he was a fighter. Irakli agreed to give it a go, and after one lesson he was hooked.
