The Lapel Killer Series by Irakli Mgeladze
Irakli began training in Jiu Jitsu under Alberto Crane at Legacy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Instantly Irakli was hooked by the intricacies of Jiu Jitsu. Not only was he taking his kids to classes, but he was training 3 times a day, 6 days per week. Irakli would train in the morning classes in Pasadena, in the lunch classes in Burbank, in the night classes in Encino and he would travel to Orange County on Saturdays. Irakli was obsessed with grappling as he liked to meet and study with a broad range of training partners. Irakli completely immersed himself in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as he developed his own style of adapting techniques to fit into his style of grappling. After only one month of training, Irakli had won his first IBJJF tournament, and he knew he would achieve success moving into the future. Irakli won a multitude of other high profile tournaments, including the NoGi World Championship, the Las Vegas open and other prestigious events.
Irakli would travel to Brazil with Alberto Crane, as they travelled around training at different world famous academies. This trip to Brazil really changed the game for Irakli as he realised how beautiful the Jiu Jitsu community truly was. Irakli was a dedicated student to Alberto Crane and through his extremely fast development, he was promoted to his Black belt after only 3 years and 10 months. Irakli was a highly intelligent practitioner as he developed his own system of lapel controls tailored to suit his game style. Irakli was achieving world wide notoriety, and as a result he was asked to coach at the Lion BJJ Academy in Moscow, Russia, and Irakli happily agreed. Irakli was always eager to meet new people and train against a continuous revolving door of Martial Artists, so moving to Moscow was an easy decision. Irakli is now back in the United States as he continues to grow as a teacher and a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Irakli Mgeladze grew up as a Georgian in the communist country, he was born in 1979 and is currently 42 years of age.
Irakli Mgeladze's Early Life!
Irakli Mgeladze grew up in the Soviet country of Georgia in the 80's and the 90's. Living in a country that suffered through communism was not easy for Irakli and his older brother. They often struggled without electricity and little water to survive, as the whole town would line up at the well for water every morning. Although times were incredibly tough, the community in Georgia always pulled together and helped each other survive. Growing up, Irakli would compete in Water Polo events for 6 years until he was 12, he also was heavily involved in traditional Georgian dance and played the violin. After a tragedy that caused the passing of his Auntie and her family, Irakli and his family received some money and decided to start a new life in the United States of America.
Irakli and his family moved to the centre of Hollywood in 1998, where they had to learn English rather quickly. At the age of 19 Irakli did not like the US as he missed the Georgian community back home. For the next 6 years Irakli hung around people from Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, making life significantly harder with the English barrier continuing. Irakli's parents bought an apartment building in Pasadena, where they moved to, and managed the building. At the time Pasadena was engulfed with gang members, violence and drugs. At 25 Irakli was an aggressive man who struggled with self control so as his building suffered through incidents, Irakli began to sort out the hoodlums. After a while Irakli had managed to drive away all the bad dealings leaving nothing but a good community.
Irakli was married and had 6 kids, 4 boys and two girls. He had a huge family to feed and entertain. One day he was driving with his daughter Serafine as she noticed a Karate school and asked her father if she could attend. Irakli agreed and brought his kids into the dojo. While he was there he met the head instructor Alberto Crane, who explained to Irakli that the academy was a Jiu Jitsu school. Alberto told Irakli he wanted him to try the art because he could see in his eyes that he was a fighter. Irakli agreed to give it a go, and after one lesson he was hooked. Irakli became one of Alberto’s most dedicated students as he delved into his journey through the Brazilian art.

Irakli Mgeladze has fought extensively as a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner. His passion for grappling has given Irakli considerable motivation towards his international career. He has beaten many high level competitors throughout his rise to Black belt. Some of his accomplishments include;World NoGi Champion, American National Champion, Long Beach Fall International Champion, Multiple Las Vegas Open Champion.
Irakli Mgeladze's Injuries!
Irakli Mgeladze has suffered from extensive lower back injuries throughout his career. His injuries would force him to discontinue as a competitor, which Irakli did struggle with. He spoke in an interview with Alberto Crane, about how he was struggling to lock up triangles during technique instruction. Instead he would get half way through and couldn't reach the finish due to his troublesome back. Irakli has been rehabilitating his injury with a process called Tacfit. This method is a strategically precise fitness system designed to provide fast recovery from high intensity training and injuries. Tacfit uses 26 workouts with 4 levels of change and 6 different timing methods. Irakli is a firm believer of Tacfit as he has been utilising its benefits on a daily basis.
