Lucas is known for his deadly have guard and uses it so well that he intentionally chooses opponents 30 - 40 Lbs heavier... and sweeps them all with ease. He even intentionally competes at ultra heavy because of how well his system works on bigger opponents

"Excellent Method of Stopping the Big Guys! A simple system that I was able to implement into my game the first time I tried. It has really reduced the amount of time I spend flattened out in bottom half guard. The entire system is especially helpful against aggressive wrestlers and larger opponents."

Lucas has developed a half guard that is so powerful that it works against anyone.  Once he gets his grips and gets into position he is unstoppable.  It doesn’t matter how big or strong a guy is, he is going to sweep them.

Lucas Leite Bio

Lucas Leite was born on the 3rd of November 1982 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Lucas was an active child participating in many sports when growing up. As a twelve year old, Lucas began training under the legendary Ryan Gracie.  He was inspired to train Jiu Jitsu under the Gracies after watching UFC 1 where Royce Gracie displayed the power of Jiu-Jitsu.

At first, Jiu Jitsu was more of a hobby. Even though he got his blue belt from the late Ryan Grace, he was a young teen and probably had some other "distractions" in his life in the beaches of Brazil.

When Lucas was 18, he decided to give Jiu Jitsu his full attention. Unable to train at the Gracie school due to his family moving too far away, Lucas joined Leozinho (Leo) Vieira‘s Check Mat Gym which ultimately changed his life.

Leo Vieira was not only one of the top competitors, but also one the the best instructors in the world. In this environment Lucas was inspired to compete and become a serious BJH competitors. Through the hard training at the Check Mat gym, Lucas developed his legendary half guard that is so feared today in competition.

Lucas Leite has competed in many different weight classes, from 72kg to 94kg.  He is no stranger to over sized opponents, as he regularly trains with teammate Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida.  In many instances, he prefers the opponents to be larger then him because of the relative speed difference and the ability to create more space with the larger opponent when flanking them with his dynamic half guard attacks.

With is passion and competition success, Lucas dedicated his life to training, competing and teaching Jiu Jitsu. Leo Vieira was a major influence in this decision to go pro and encouraged Lucas to move to the USA and open his own gym.

In 2007 Lucas Leite moved to California and opened the now famous Lucas Leite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, also known as, Chec kMat La Habra. Check Mat La Habra is famous for it's legendary training camps and breeding some of the toughest BJJ competitors in the world, in all divisions. Lucas also runs a thriving school for adults and kids who want to discover the power of Jiu Jitsu.

Today, Lucas spends his time teaching at his academy and seminars throughout the world. He competed in Worlds last in 2017 and lost to the young champion Nicholas Meregali.
