Like many other wrestlers, Sean Russell began his journey in the sport of wrestling during his time in high school. For his time at high school, Sean Russell attended Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia. During his time as a high school wrestler, Sean Russell gained a total record of 240 wins and 11 losses. Sean Russell was also the first wrestler in nearly 50 years to win 4 state high school championships. He was also a two-time State Team Champion.

After graduating from High School, Sean Russell would go on to attend Edinboro University and competed for the school’s team, the Fighting Scots from 2014 to 2017. After his tenure at Edinboro University, Sean Russell would transfer to the University of Minnesota for his 2018 to the 2019 year and compete for the school’s wrestling team, the Gophers.
