How well you learn the techniques of jiu jitsu is directly founded on how jiu jitsu is taught to you. While there are all kinds of advice about choosing a school for its proximity to where you live, for its affiliation to a...

When we first start training Jiu Jitsu there are tons of things being thrown at us all at once.  Between the new environment, mat etiquette, the names of all of the different fundamental positions, there is a lot going on.  In addition to...

Side Control isn’t one of those positions that offers as many choke opportunities as other positions.  But, in the video below, Kurt Osiander offers two chokes. First, he demonstrates the spin choke. Then, if his opponent defends the spin, Osiander shows us how...

If you have been training for some time you probably have come across the name Kurt Osiander. Between his Youtube Channel and larger than life personality Kurt is a unique representation of Jiu-Jitsu. His teaching style is a no nonsense approach that focuses...

We’ve all heard it before: “Wow, they’re super talented!”  But are you sure that’s it? Maybe there’s something else that has led to their success?  In fact, I’m convinced that talent is NEVER the most important ingredient for success. I’ve spent over two...

The knee on belly position is quite possibly one of the most dominant platforms in all of BJJ. It’s hard to beat the feeling of establishing the position and keeping it as you hunt for submissions and opportunities to transition. Along with its...

One of the most dominant positions you can have in Jiu Jitsu is having control of someone’s back, otherwise known as back mount.  There is a reason why this position rakes in the high point values in points based tournaments, typically tied with...
