UFC Fight Night 153 Gustafsson Vs. Smith

,

The UFC takes to Stockholm, Sweden this weekend for Fight Night 153 featuring a hometown hero in the main event slot. That hometown guy is none other than Alexander Gustafsson. He will face Alex “lionheart” Smith.

Although this fight and some of the undercard might slip through the cracks with the casual fans, but anyone that watches fairly often will get to see some of Europe’s very best at Fight Night 153.  The card suffered a loss to the card when Ilir Latifi had to withdraw from his bout with Volkan Oezdemir due to back injury, that said this card has some heavy hitters on it literally.

Jimi Manuwa has some of the most vicious KO’s in the division. Everytime Manuwa steps into the Octagon you can expect some heavy hands to be thrown. He doesn’t always win, but man is easy to tune in to watch. He will face Alexsander Rakic’ in the event’s Co-Main Event. Alexsander is on a 11 fight win streak, and is 3-0 in the UFC. A win over Manuwa will surely give him a bump in the rankings.

Though it might not be a number one contender fight in the main event, it is a chance for both fighter to right the ship. Gustafsson will look to make good use of his range and keep Lionheart at the end of his punches. If he is able to keep Smith at the end of his punches he’ll have a good chance for victory.

Smith on the other hand will have to utilize his heavy hands, grappling prowess, and aggression to take the fight to Gustafsson. If he is able to get in early and land some hard shots he might be able to play spoiler for the hometown fans. If you are visually inclined here is a breakdown from two UFC greats.

Although the UFC Light Heavyweight division is pretty thin at the moment, the winner of the fight will most likely not get a shot at the current champ Jon Jones. Both athletes are coming off of a loss to Jones. Gustaffson was stopped by Jones in their rematch at the end of 2018

Alex Smith faired better than Gustafsson, but still didn’t find much success against the champ in their 5 round battle. That, said with a couple consecutive wins both athletes would have a strong claim to take on Jon Jones. Jones is currently slated to take on Thiago Santos in July.

Let it be noted that these cards that are overlooked often times have some of the best fight! The prelims start at 10am EST!
