Bruno Malfacine was born in 1986 in Rio De Janeiro state and began jiu jitsu training under the influence of an uncle when he was 11 in 1998. Initially studying under Carlos Santana, he was able to achieve the orange belt before Carlos Santana stopped teaching and he had to look for another coach.
Still being encouraged by his uncle who trained BJJ as well, he resumed his training under Vinicius Amaral under an early version of the current GFT affiliation and would eventually earn all of his color belts from Amaral. In 2008, Bruno had the opportunity to relocate to Sao Paolo to train with Fabio Gurgel at his powerhouse Alliance Academy. It would be here that he would spark friendships and long time relationships with future champions like Bernardo Faria. It would be under the watchful eye of Fabio Gurgel that Bruno would build on his color belt success and begin the long journey to achieving 10 world titles at the black belt level.
