Lucas "Hulk" Barbosa
Lucas Barbosa was born in 1992 into a family that promoted a number of athletic endeavors for the youth. As a young man, Lucas took part in swimming and basketball, eventually getting involved in martial arts around age 10 with taekwondo and judo. At age 15 while visiting a family member's home who practiced BJJ, he was introduced to the art and his first coach Diego Lopes.
From his earliest days, he trained under a number of coaches who always accentuated his takedowns finally ending up in Rio under Marcio Rodrigues who along with coach Andre Fabiano would help develop his early skills as a competitor, eventually conferring the brown belt on him.
His career skyrocketed as part of the "The Team" web series that the Copo Podio promotion was using to find contenders for that year's season in 2014. Lucas would stand out from the others and earn himself a spot at the competition's main event that year. Not long after he would earn his black belt from Andre Fabiano.
Lucas Barbosa would eventually relocate to southern California and join the Atos Jiu Jitsu Team where he has further honed his competitive skills earning the title of the #1 ranked IBJJF athlete in his weight for the year 2018. At just 26 years of age, his potential as a black belt competitor seems limitless.
