After nearly 13 years of training, Greg received his black belt in 2016, and was formally recognized as an official Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt. After receiving his black belt, Hamilton moved to Texas to continue his journey and train under Jiu Jitsu Godfather Master Carlos Machado. He also received the blessing to open up his own Machado Jiu Jitsu academy in Texas. In more recent years, Greg has shifted his focus to more of a teaching rather than a competitive practice.

More About Greg Hamilton’s Career
Greg Hamilton’s career in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts began in 2004 in a small town in California which mixed wrestling, Judi, striking, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This was a rough place to train, but was one of the only places to go at the time as this was before Jiu Jitsu really became mainstream.
Hamilton first learned about Jiu Jitsu around 1993 when he watched Royce Gracie and all of his success in the UFC. After he had been training for about 2 years, Hamilton had the amazing opportunity to begin to train with Royce Gracie himself in 2006.
Hamilton had been mentored and trained by Patrick King who was a Royce Gracie black belt, and he gave Greg permission to start learning how to instruct Jiu Jitsu in 2007. With his life filled with both training and instructing Jiu Jitsu, it was here where his love for the art deepened greatly.
He worked his way up the ranks both competing professionally and teaching before he received his black belt in 2016, making him an official Machado Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. He still currently competes atblack belt, but his priority today is more focused on helping his students grow rather than his personal Jiu Jitsu path.
A huge turning point in Greg’s career happened when he began training under Jean Jacques Machado and all of the amazing talent at his academy. It was at this time when Greg really started to develop in a major way as he was spending so much time training with some of the most high level practitioners out there.
Several years after receiving his black belt, Hamilton decided to move his family from the Los Angeles area to Texas in order to both train under Master Carlos Machado and open a Machado Jiu Jitsu academy of his own.
Greg talks about how having the opportunity to open a Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu academy has been one of the biggest honors of his life, with his goal being to deliver Jiu Jitsu from the source to his students in the purest of ways. In his academy he teaches more than Jiu Jitsu, as he focuses on Empowerment and enrichment programs, certain career opportunities, and a special focus on training law enforcement with discounts and specifically tailored programs. He also offers anti bullying programs as well as strength and conditioning.
After 3 years of having his black belt, Greg Hamilton was promoted and given his first degree in 2019. He continues to be an amazing example of a practitioner in all that he does.
