Igor stands 6 foot one inch and competes at both his weight class of heavyweight and absolute (any weight vs any weight) divisions. He is one of the toughest athletes in his division with an emphasis on having a menacing closed guard that helped him decimate his opponents. Igor is a long time competitor and his skills that he's developed over a lifetime of training have steered him to winning countless major tournaments throughout his career. He has conquered competitions and earned titles such as the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, IBJJF European Championships, Brazilian National Championships, IBJJF World Championships, IBJJF Asian Open Championships and countless others.
Igor started training in 1988 with Jose Mario MacCord Queirog aka Zé Mario Esfiha, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt who is one of the founders of Brasa Jiu Jitsu. He wanted to bulk up in size so he started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since he was too young to start weight training. After training under Ze Mario, Igor Silva earned his black belt in 2006 under Muzio de Angelis who is a prestigious referee of the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation). Igor was grinding through the competition at brown belt and through his talents and developed skill, he placed first and became Brown Belt World Champion in the IBJJF. While on the podium to Igor’s surprise but no one else's, he was awarded his well earned Black Belt after dominating everyone in his current rank. This was a proud day for Igor and everyone who was a part of his success.
Another passion of Igor’s is charity work. Igor aids in the re-introduction of troubled youths back to society. The organization is named Projecto Marc Romano. The organization is named after Marc Romano, a close friend of Igor’s who passed away. Igor is still an active competitor at 37 with his last wins being in 2021! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a lifestyle for Igor, he is a true champion and a staple in the sport.
