Joe Worthington’s Injuries!

On the bulletproof for bjj podcast #25 recorded in November of 2021, Joe Worthington discusses with his business partner James Tomlinson about injuries. Joe has a few injuries that he discusses. One being rupturing his ACL, one of the most important ligaments in the knee when dealing with knee joint integrity. He was 1 year and ¾ post surgery when discussing it. Joe tore it during competition training with his coach Adam Childs. They were training intensely, near the end of the roll his coach surprised him with a collar drag. Joe was off balance and his ACL had been ruptured and meniscus torn. He did not feel any pain initially because the ligament was completely torn. If it were slightly torn the pain would have been immediate. Joe names this to be the most catastrophic injury that he has ever gone through. Changing the trajectory of the last couple years of his training. He mentions if he has an injury like that again then he would opt out of surgery if possible because the majority of the time he has had to spend away from training was because of the surgery. Another that he discusses on his podcast #17 about dealing with lower back pain is some of the lower back pain that he experiences during and outside of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He mentions even being in the position of standing and leaning forward like when he is standing at his sink or gardening. Joe attributes this to constantly having your hips flexed and under pressure in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Joe’s bulletproof for bjj program helps strengthen the body to aid in preventing as well as rehabilitating injuries.

Is Joe Worthington Retired?

Joe Worthington is currently not retired. Joe is still actively competing with his last competition being in May of 2021. Joe won gold in his own weight class and silver in the open weight class at the NSWBJJF Autumn Cup in Sydney, Australia.
