Open Guard: BJJ Fundamentals - Go Further Faster by John DanaherHe is known for his mastery of the guillotine and has created instructionals to help others learn his tricks. In addition to his YouTube videos and his in-person instruction, Capizzi sells instructional videos and has broken his guillotine system up into two volumes. He also puts out a steady stream of recordings from the instruction that takes place in his gym.
He also regularly records himself playing guitar to demonstrate his other passion, playing heavy rock music that borders on the metal genre. He can be seen on the NYCBJJ YouTube channel branching out with a second talent and broadcasting it to his subscribers.
Capizzi currently operates a Renzo Gracie academy on Staten Island with fellow Renzo black belt, Anthony Buckwitz. The two are still under the banner of the legendary MMA fighter and BJJ prodigy, and have continued his lineage by promoting several black belts within the organization from their Staten Island location.

Joseph Capizzi's Best Fight of All Time
In his time spent on the international competition circuit, Capizzi has faced some of the very best rooster weights that the world has to offer. In 2011, after a few solid years of competing in professional tournaments, Capizzi found his way to the 2011 IBJJF World Championships. Here, he faced future phenom Felipe Costa on his way to the finals. Costa and Capizzi got into it quickly with a scramble taking place almost instantly. When the dust settled, Capizzi had locked on to a guillotine grip and was fighting to secure the submission. Although Costa was able to rotate through a few different, equally terrible positions in his search for an escape, Capizzi eventually locked it up tightly enough to secure the tap in about a minute, and went on to the next round victorious.

Capizzi was back-to-back runner up in both the 2010 and 2011 No Gi World Championships as Mullins was able to edge out a victory by points on both occasions.
