Dan has been training in Jiu Jitsu since 2002 and since 2010 he has trained extensively with Marcelo Garcia. Dan was awarded his Black belt by Phil Migliarese, and since has been teaching Jiu Jitsu to people all over the world. Dan also holds a Black belt in Judo, which makes him a seriously dangerous competitor. Dan has been an extremely busy competitor on the Jiu Jitsu world scene as he has won multiple Championships.

Closed Guard Attacks For All Levels by Dan Covel

Since training in Jiu Jitsu Dan has experienced many triumphs on the mats. Dan would improve his game exponentially after meeting and training with the famous Marcelo Garcia. In 2012 Dan would light up his Jiu Jitsu career by winning the Masters division at the NoGi Pan American Championships. Dan also came close at a few other tournaments in 2011 and 2012 by securing 2nd and third place finishes at the New York Open, the San Francisco Open and the IBJJF NoGi Pan American Lightweight Championships respectively. 

Dan continued on his winning way throughout 2014 and 2015 as his stocks rose in the Jiu Jitsu community. In 2014 Dan won the IBJJF New York Open in the Gi, and went on to compete and win at the NoGi Pan American Championships. The following year Dan would impress his coaches as his devastating closed guard attacks put him squarely in the limelight. Dan won the IBJJF New York Open and the IBJJF NoGi New York Summer Open Championships, Dan also became the New York Pro Champion. Dan was fast becoming a Black belt sensation.

From 2016 to 2019 Dan won 3 consecutive NoGi Pan American Championships as he showcased his expertise in high level guard attacks. Dan would also add wins to his resume by securing Gold at the New York Open on 4 separate occasions. Dan also won the 2016 New York Abu Dhabi Pro Trials and became the 2019 New York Pro Champion. Dan also competed in events like Polaris Pro where he fought extremely talented grapplers.

Dan has filmed some instructional videos that have become extremely successful. His Back Magic Guard has become a popular choice to many grapplers over the globe, Dan has also filmed with BJJ Fanatics and is likely to keep bringing out further instructionals. Dan runs seminars whenever he gets the time away from running his popular Jiu Jitsu academy called Dan Covel Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Manhattan. Dan has become somewhat of an entrepreneur as he also runs Pro Athletics which is an online shop that sells his own brand of fightwear.

Dan Covel was born in New York in the United States of America. He was born on the 13th of January in 1981, he is currently 40 years of age.

Dan Covel In His Early Life!

Dan Covel grew up as a sports enthusiast and a martial artist as he loved playing football and practised in Judo. As Dan grew up he became quite focused with Judo as it became a part of his everyday routine. Judo is that sport that is highly demanding on an athlete both physically and mentally. Dan became obsessed with martial arts as he rose through the ranks of Judo, and by the time he graduated from school he was a proficient Black belt in Judo. By the age of 21 Dan knew he had more to learn in martial arts so he discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. After just a few lessons Dan was hooked and roughly 8 years later he received his Black belt in BJJ from his instructor Phil Migliarese. As Dan kept on training he met Marcelo Garcia who helped him improve his game. Dan would combine his elements of Judo and Jiu Jitsu to become a seriously talented competitor.

Dan won the Abu Dhabi Trials in 2016 where he gave himself a chance to become an Abu Dhabi Champion. Dan’s most successful fights were in 2016, 2017 and 2018 when he won consecutive Pan American Championships. Dan has showcased some exceptional skills in competitive Jiu Jitsu over the course of his career, as he continues to compete in Masters divisions at tournaments like Grappling Industries.

Dan Covel has been relatively lucky when it comes to injuries as he has had no major setbacks. Dan is the head coach at Dan Covel Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in New York, where he teaches many students Jiu Jitsu and Judo. Dan has had an illustrious career on the competition scene as he now vows to give back to the community by spreading his expert knowledge of Jiu Jitsu to as many students as possible.
