In his high school wrestling career Thomas Gilman would become the twentieth four-time Nebraska (NSAA) state champion in history and helped his school's team reach three state titles.

After Thomas Gilman graduated from high school, he would begin attending the university of Iowa and began competing for the university's team, the Iowa Hawkeyes.

There he would train under Terry Brands for his collegiate career. From there Thomas Gilman would go on to have a very successful collegiate career. He would graduate from university with a total record of 107 wins and 12 losses.

From there Thomas Gilman would dedicate his time and effort towards his freestyle career under the coaching of Cael Sanderson at the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.

From there Thomas Gilman would go on to compete at multiple high level tournaments including the US National Championships, the World Championships, the Pan American Championships and even in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. 

Thomas Gilman is known for his very physical wrestling style, always taking the center of the mat and trying to pressure his opponent with tons of pressure and strength. Thanks to his aggressive nature Gilman is considered to have the traditional Iowa style. He is often described as very tough and a brawler.

That same year Thomas Gilman would compete in the Spain Grand Prix and defeat all three of his opponents to win gold in his division. 

Thomas Gilman would then compete in the 2017 World Championships and defeat 4 out of his 5 opponent’s to claim second place. 

Thomas Gilman then competed at the 2017 Clubs World Cup and took home second place after beating 4 out of his 5 opponent’s.

At the 2018 World Cup Thomas Gilman would get gold as a part of team USA after beating 2 out of 4 of his opponent’s. 

He would then compete at the 2018 Pan American Championships and beat 3 out of 4 of his opponents and take home bronze. 

After competing in other tournaments that year, Thomas Gilman would finish off his 2018 year at the World Championships where he would beat only 2 out of his 4 opponents. 

In 2019, Thomas Gilman would compete at the 2019 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix and he would defeat 3 out of 4 of his opponent’s to take home the bronze medal in his division. 

At that year’s US Open Thomas Gilman would take home silver after beating his first 4 opponents but ultimately lose in the finals to Daton Fix. 

After that the biggest tournament that Thomas Gilman would compete in is the 2020 Pan American Olympic Qualification, which he would defeat all of his opponent’s and win gold in. 

At the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials Thomas Gilman would beat 5 out of 6 of his opponent’s and qualify for the team. 

This would allow Thomas Gilman to compete at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo where he would first lose to Zaur Uguev and then go on to defeat Gulomjon Abdullaev and Reza Atri to get the bronze medal in his division.
