Who Is Dante Leon?

Dante Leon is a world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, he is well established among the Jiu Jitsu community. Dante has had many accomplishments throughout his illustrious career like becoming the IBJJF World No Gi Champion, the IBJJF Pan American and IBJJF American National No Gi Champion as a Black belt.

Dante began his Jiu Jitsu journey under the Gracie Humaita/Ribeiro banner. As a blue belt in 2012 to 2013 Dante achieved Gold medals in the IBJJF World Juvenile Championship, IBJJF Pans Championship and the IBJJF Pans Juvenile Championship. Dante moved up through the ranks and as he reached Purple belt he won the IBJJF Pans No Gi Championship in 2015. 

Dante was in need of higher level training partners so he decided to join up with GF Team under Abraham Marte and Vitor Oliveira. Moving up into the Brown belt division, Dante eventually moved with his good friends
Kelly Hymore and Gutemberg Pereira to the GF Team gym in Toledo Ohio in the United States.  

The next two years Dante would light up the world stage winning multiple titles as a Brown belt. In 2016 He took out The IBJJF World No Gi Championship along with many other prestigious tournaments like;IBJJF Pans No Gi Championship, IBJJF NYC BJJ Pro Championship, UAEJJF USA National Pro and numerous Chicago Opens.

In 2017 Dante continued his run of tournament wins as he starred on the competition mats. He won the IBJJF Chicago Summer Open in GI and No Gi, The Chicago Spring Open in Gi and No Gi and won Silver at the IBJJF World Championship. Dante would then be awarded his Black belt alongside Gutemberg Pereira by Vitor Oliveira and Master Julio Cesar Pereira.

In Dante’s first year as Black belt he won the IBJJF Chicago Spring Open, IBJJF American No Gi Nationals and the IBJJF Pans No Gi Championship. The next two years for Dante would see him win over 50 fights as a Black belt, including wins over Pedro Rocha, Felipe Cesar and Jamie Canuto to win the IBJJF No Gi World Championship.

Dante also won the Kasai Pro 7 in 2020, and more recently has secured wins over Jackson Douglas, Francisco Cuneo and Lucas Laet to win the Charleston SNG. Dante’s most recent win came over Davi Ramos at Fight 2 Win 182 by way of rear naked choke.

How Old Is Dante Leon?

Dante Leon was born in Harrow, a small town located in Essex County in Ontario Canada. He was born on the 6th of May in 1995, he is currently 26 years of age.

As a kid growing up in Canada, Dante Leon played ice hockey, like many of the kids in Ontario it was a popular sport. From the age of 6 Dante’s father introduced him to martial arts, and Dante would train in boxing and other striking disciplines. Six years later by the age of 12 Dante started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he trained under the late Dean Hersche who was one of Dante’s driving forces in becoming a future world champion. After his mentors passing Dante would use the inspiration he received from Dean and utilise that into his own future aspirations.

He has fought some of the best Grapplers in the world, guys like;Lucas Laet, Tye Ruotulo, Johnny Tama, Lucas Lepre, Renato Canuto, Nicky Ryan, Garry Tonon, Vagner Rocha, Gabriel Arges, Kaynan Duarte, Josh Hinger Craig Jones, Jackson Souza and Keenan Cornelius.

Dante Leon’s Best Fight of All Time!

Dante Leon has had some very interesting fights in his career, his win over Renato Canuto at the Kasai Pro 7 in 2020 was epic as he up staged the champion 5 points to 4. Dante’s best tournament came in 2019 at the IBJJF World No Gi Championship. Round 1 would see Dante destroy his opponent Jaakko Vilander 22 points to 0. In the quarter finals he fought Pedro Rocha and submitted him with an armbar from the triangle. Felipe Cesar was his next opponent and Dante beat him 4 points to 2, advancing on into the final. Dante Leon would win his first No Gi World title as a Black belt against Jamie Canuto defeating him 4 points to 2. Dante Leon was crowned the No Gi World Champion, a definite highlight of his career.

Who Did Dante Leon Lose To?

Dante Leon Has had many great wins but also some really hard losses. He has been defeated by guys like;Josh Hinger, Keenan Cornelius, Jackson Souza, Manual Ribamar, Michael Perez, Craig Jones, Kaynan Duarte, Renato Canuto, Gabriel Arges, Kyle Boehm, Vagner Rocha, Garry Tonon, Roberto Rimenez and Nicky Ryan. 

The most notable loss for Dante would come at his second attempt at the No Gi Worlds as a Black belt. In 2018 he started the tournament off in fine fashion defeating Jeremy Jackson by a guillotine in round 1. Round 2 would see him submit Enrique Falarzar with an armbar. Moving into the quarter finals Dante would fight Felipe Cesar, he took his back and finished the fight with a rear naked choke. Heading into the Semi’s Dante was confident as he was dominating the comp so far. Dante was slightly edged out in the Semi by Hugo Marques by an advantage, Dante took third place but was disappointed as he thought he could have easily gone on to win the tournament.

Dante Leon has won 81 fights as a black belt with 35 losses, he has secured 51 submissions and has only been submitted 7 times. Dante has won a tremendous amount of titles in his prestigious career.

Dante Leon is still a highly active martial artist, his constant thrill for competing is remarkable in this exceptional athlete. His last match was only recently in 2021 at the Fight 2 Win 182 event, where he choked out Davi Ramos with a rear naked choke.
