Bucalet started his athletic journey at a young age with football and swimming, but he later discovered his true calling in martial arts. He began his training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and quickly fell in love with the sport. Bucalet's natural talent and hard work led him to compete in various grappling tournaments in Romania, where he won multiple championships and became one of the country's top grapplers. He translated this passion back into his other hobbies and began coaching swimming as his first steps towards becoming a world famous BJJ instructor.

Since he began to compete, Dinu has been impressive. He fought a combined total of 13 MMA matches between amateur and professional, and he cites his record as a pro at 7-1, which is a dominant run in a sport as brutal as MMA.

He wasn’t just a journeyman: Dinu Bucalet was the pro champion for the RXF promotion in 2016 as a 155 pounder (lightweight). He also claimed MMA titles in Russia in both 2013 and 2016. This is especially impressive, considering MMA has its roots in Sambo, a Russian-style version of MMA that’s been practiced in the East for hundreds of years.

In 2013, Bucalet made his professional MMA debut, and he has been making waves in the sport ever since. He has fought in various promotions across Europe and Asia, including RXF, ACB, and ONE Championship. Bucalet is known for his well-rounded skills, with a focus on Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling.

In addition to his time as a fighter, Bucalet is a dedicated martial arts coach and instructor. He runs his own gym in Cluj-Napoca, where he trains and mentors young fighters, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of MMA athletes.

He’s also pursued a career in fitness education and personal training. He is certified in the UK as a level 2 swimming instructor and a level 3 REPS Personal Trainer. Dinu Bucalet's mentions winning the Nogi IBJJF Europeans in 2018 as his most well known achievement. The Nogi IBJJF Europeans is one of the most prestigious grappling events in the world, attracting some of the best BJJ practitioners from all over the globe. Bucalet's win at the event is a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.

When asked in an interview, Bucalet was quick to give two names that submitted him as tough losses. The first was Ross Nicholls, who he competed against first and was submitted in a close match that ended quickly. It happened again when he faced off against BJJ phenom Charles Negromonte, and neither of these losses sat well with Bucalet. Although his time for competing is closing, we’re thinking a match against either of these two could pull him back onto the mats pretty fast.

He’s also no stranger to injury. He’s been open about several small, nagging injuries, he explains that his worst one was when he was unable to walk for weeks after a takedown attempt gone wrong that cost him the ligaments in his ankle. He made a full recovery and continued to compete, but still recalls this episode.
