The Pressure Factory: Using Pressure Principles To Score Takedowns by Jacob Harman

Harman is a U.S. Navy brat. His father was an American naval officer stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. He was born in the spring of 1975 with severe medical issues. He came into the world paralyzed due to labor complications, and was jaundiced as an infant. Harman’s first 18 months were full of physical rehabilitation to help him gain basic mobility, even as a baby. His family returned to America about three and a half years later, when Jacob was only five years old.

From then on, Jacob Harman grew up in one of America’s best destinations for grappling, just a short drive from Huntington Beach, California. He attended Rancho Alamitos high school, where he began to make a name for himself in the wrestling community. He was able to qualify for the California National Wrestling Team during three out of his four years in high school, and attended the Nationals representing California as an All-Star.

After high school and a little time at a local school, Jake Harman found his way to one of the nations best wrestling programs at Arizona State University. At ASU, Harman's natural weight class was already very deep with talent. His coach recommended that he move up a division to compete at 190 pounds, and Harman did just that.

Upon graduating in 2000, Harman accepted the role of head coach at a local wrestling program started by a mentor of his. The Calvary Chapel High School Churchboyz became a dominant force in the world of combat sports over Jake’s seventeen years spent coaching high-level athletes through the program.

In his time at Calvary Chapel High School, Harman became known as a secret weapon for talented athletes looking to transition from wrestling into submission grappling. He coached multiple successful NCAA Champions, UFC Champions, and IBJJF World Champions. From old school catch wrestling legends like Josh Barnett to future hall-of-famers like Luke Rockhold and Buchecha, professional combat sports athletes from all over the world have found themselves sharing mat space with Jacob Harman.
