John Wayne Parr then transitioned into kickboxing and eventually, after moving to Queensland he began training in Muay Thai under Blaire Moore, one of the first Muay Thai promoters in Australia.
From then on John Wayne Parr began to compete and eventually moved to Thailand in 1996 and stayed at a training camp there for 4 years. He went on to have one of the greatest careers in modern Muay Thai history, especially for a non-Thai fighter.

John Wayne Parr’s professional fight list starts in 1997 with his fight against Joe Louie Muangsarin at the legendary Lumpinee stadium. John Wayne Parr won the match by TKO using uppercuts.
He then competed around the world but mainly in Thailand for 7 years before debuting at the K-1 World Max 2004 tournament. In that match, he beat Duane “Bang” Ludwig by a unanimous decision. John Wayne Parr then went onto fight at the K-1 World MAX 2004 World Tournament Final and lost to Buakaw Banchamek via a split decision.
He then went on to fight, mostly in Asia and Oceania against top-level fighters before meeting his rival, Yodsanklai Fairtex at Xplosion 12 on December 10th, 2005 in Gold Coast, Australia. This fight was incredible but unfortunately, after 5 hard-fought rounds, it ended in a unanimous decision loss for John Wayne Parr.
John Wayne Parr then had a rematch against Yodsankali Fairtex in 2008 but it, unfortunately, ended in another unanimous decision loss for Parr.
However, in their third fight at Pay Back Time 2 in 2010, John Wayne Parr was able to score a split decision win over his long-time rival.
John Wayne has been competing since then and has most recently competed for ONE Championship on ONE on TNT 3 against Neiky Holzken. John Wayne Parr lost that match in the second round via head kick TKO.

The fight was a brutal yet beautiful showing of Muay Thai by two rivals. The fight went all 5, 3-minute rounds and in true Muay Thai fashion it started off slowly with both fighters throwing out their long-range weapons to probe their opponent.
Eventually, the match started to pick up and John Wayne Parr even sustained a cut from a big elbow from Yodsenklai.

John Wayne Parr has faced a few injuries in his long and legendary career, which includes an insane amount of stitches that he has needed to get on his face throughout the years.
However, the most significant injury that John Wayne Parr has endured is a bad hip that required a partial hip replacement. There isn’t any direct cause for this but the injury more so came from the years of accumulative damage that John Wayne Parr’s career put on his body.
Is John Wayne Parr Retired?
No John Wayne Parr is not retired. However, John Wayne Parr has retired twice. He retired back in 2012 after his fight with Jordan Tai, however, he made a comeback in 2013.
John Wayne Parr then retired again in 2019 due to his hip replacement. He then made another comeback at ONE Championship in his match against Nieky Holzken.
