Jonnatas Gracie Araujo da Silva is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt competitor with countless accolades under his belt from his many years of competition. Jonnotas was given the middle name “Gracie” by his father out of respect for the famous Gracie family, the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He currently trains at the Atos Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in San Diego, California. Atos is one of the highest level training facilities and is led by world renowned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach, fighter and superstar, Andre Galvao whom Jonnotas Gracie received his brown and black belt from (Black Belt since 2019). Atos is home to numerous high level competitors. Jonnotas was born on June 9th,1997 (currently 24 years of age) in the northern state of Rio Grande do Norte. He moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil at the age of 11. At the age of 14, Jonnotas started his Journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after being influenced by many of his peers that were training in the sport. Jonnatas Gracie then joined Guigo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu owned by Luiz Guilherme, one of the top ultra heavyweights of his generation. Jonnotas Gracie made the choice at a very young age that he would make Brazilian Jiu Jitsu his profession. He took on the challenge of moving up through the belt ranks and grinding through countless Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions to reach his goals. He started competing early in his career and his tenacity on the mats has brought him many wins and championships at many of his colored belt ranks. Jonotas competes at his own weight class of 181.5 lbs (82.3 kg) and in the absolute divisionsons. Absolute divisions meaning any weight class versus any weight class, where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters can showcase and prove that a smaller individual with higher technical ability can defeat a larger fighter on the mats. Jonnotas Gracie is a well rounded Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter with a big emphasis on his ability to scramble to both get out of disadvantageous positions and maneuver into advantageous ones.
