Who is Kyle Dake?

Kyle Dake was born on February 25, 1991, in Ithaca, New York, United States.

Raised in a family with a strong wrestling background dating as far as his grandfather (Bob Dake), who initiated Lansing school district’s wrestling program back in his heyday, it did not come as a surprise that Kyle himself would give his first steps on a wrestling mat at a very young age. 4 years old to be exact.

Dake would earn two wrestling state titles for Lansing High School, accomplishments closely followed by his father, Doug, who was coaching the team at the time. A six-time letter winner for Lansing HS, Dake was the wrestling team’s captain for four seasons straight while also being a two-time letter winner in baseball where he played second base and catcher. Adding to his list of high-school accomplishments another letter in track and field for sprinting.

Kyle’s development as a wrestler was closely followed by his father and mentor, Doug Dake, up until the young New York athlete joined Cornell University, a time when that role was taken over by coach Rob Koll.

At Cornell, Dake quickly became one of the most respected wrestlers in the nation, going on to win 4 NCAA titles in 4 different weight classes, the first athlete to ever accomplish this in the history of the association.

After becoming one of the most revered folkstyle wrestlers of all time and graduating from Cornell University (2013) with a record of 137-4, Kyle shifted his focus towards freestyle and the dream of becoming both a World and an Olympic Champion, winning multiple events at the senior level.

How Much Does Kyle Dake Weigh?

Kyle Dake is approximately 175 lbs.  He has won championships at 4 different weight classes as a collegiate athlete.  He was able to compete at 141, 149, 157, and165 lbs as a collegiate wrestler.

Kyle Dake is considered one of the best collegiate wrestlers in history.  From 2010 to 2013, he wrestled for Cornell University.  In 2013, he became only the third wrestler to win four NCAA Division I titles.  Among that illustrious group of wrestlers, he was the first to compete and win the title in four different weight classes.

At the end of his final season, Kyle Dake would also be awarded the Hodge Trophy for outstanding wrestler.

Kyle Dake would make his senior freestyle debut in 2011 at the age of 20.  He would become the US University National runner-up to 2010 US National champion Andrew Howe.

In April of 2012, Kyle Dake, already a three-time NCAA champion, attempted to make the Olympic team at 74 kilos, but he would be defeated in the semifinals by Trent Paulson.  During that run, he posted a notable win against future world champion an Hodge Trophy recipient, David Taylor.

 After his graduation from Cornell, Kyle Dake would compete at the 2013 US World Team Trials.  He was able to make it through Trent Paulson, David Taylor and Andrew Howe, he was unable to get past long time nemesis Jordan Burroughs.

In 2015, Kyle Dake would again face Jordan Burroughs at the US World Team Trials and be defeated twice in a row.  Burroughs would go on to win another world title.

In October of 2018, Kyle Dake would compete in his first World Championships at the age of 27.  He destroyed all of his competition.  He was able to win every match by tech fall without having a point scored upon him.  Kyle Dake outscored his opponents 37-0.
