Garry Tonon Fight List

As a teenager after about a year of training with renowned grappler and combat athlete Tom DeBlass, Garry Tonon would get his first taste of world championship competition when he won the IBJJF worlds as a blue belt.  After graduation, Tonon would matriculate to Rutgers University where he would earn a degree in exercise science, Tonon kept up his insane training schedule and competing in Gi training for the first few years of his competitive career.

Garry Tonon would eventually begin traveling into Manhattan to train at the illustrious Renzo Gracie Academy with John Danaher to build on the foundation developed training with Tom DeBlass and Ricardo Almeida.  DeBlass would award Garry Tonon his black belt in 2013, with Tonon being his first black belt.  Only a month later, Garry Tonon would be at the illustrious ADCC World championships in China taking on a who's who of grappling competitors like Kron Gracie, Roberto Cyborg Abreu, and Marcus Buchecha Almeida.

For the next 4-5 years, Garry Tonon would compete in a number of very high profile submission grappling matches for organizations like EBI, Metamoris, and Polaris to name a few.

In March of 2018, Garry Tonon made his professional MMA debut against Richard Corminal for ONE Championship in Thailand.  Garry Tonon was able to win the fight via TKO in the second round.

Garry Tonon's Best Fight of All Time

Garry Tonon's best submission grappling match is hard to nail down.  Some might argue his back and forth match with Kron Gracie within the ADCC where Garry Tonon was able to defend some of the tightest submissions by the Brazilian grappling legend would be the match that truly put Garry on the map as one of the most exciting grapplers in history.

His match with brutal leg locker Rousimar Palhares in the Polaris grappling promotion in England could also be argued as his greatest match.  The back and forth battle between the much larger Brazilian, known to violently finish leg submissions and who had been released by the UFC for his penchant to hold a submission far after a referee stoppage, will go down in history as a true nail-biter.  Though no clear victor was named and the match was determined to be a draw, Garry Tonon's performance was a clear victory for his brand and his reputation as a gamer who would take on any opponent.

Who Did Garry Tonon Lose to?

Thus far, in Mixed Martial Arts competition, Garry Tonon stands undefeated and nearing his first title shot in the ONE promotion.  As a grappler, he has faced a who's who of competitors and has been defeated by the likes of Kron Gracie, Marcus Buchecha and even his teammate Gordon Ryan who he faced in the ADCC Absolute Division in 2019.

Garry Tonon's Record

Garry Tonon's mixed martial arts record is currently 6 wins and 0 losses.  In grappling he's had 95 matches with a record of 73 victories and 22 defeats.  In many ways, his high intensity, risk-taking style can be argued to be partially responsible for some of his defeats.  Never satisfied with conservative wins and earning decisions by points, Garry Tonon remains one of the world's most exciting grapplers to watch.
