Renato Canuto
Posted by Fanatics Authors on
Renato Forasieppi Canuto was born on June 13, 1996 in southern Sao Paolo Brazil. He is a Checkmat Jiu Jitsu team representative and is part of a new movement in today's grappling competitors (like Garry Tonon) who work extremely hard to make the event exciting and fan friendly first with a dynamic, submission hunting style that may not always pay off for himself in terms of getting to the top of the winners podium, but helps push the envelope of competition and grow the sport with legions of new fans. His recent performances for Kasai in particular, continue to generate more and more highlight reel performances that will continue to grow the sport and the Canuto brand.

Renato Canuto Biography
Renato Forasieppi Canuto was born on June 13, 1996 in southern São Paulo, Brazil.
Renato's early martial arts training began when he started studying judo. It wasn't until his father, Valdir "Tio Chico" Canuto, himself a black belt began teaching a kids BJJ class around 2004 that Renato started training as one of the first students in that class.
Within only a few months, Renato's father signed him up for the state tournament which he ended up winning easily. From these early moments, his future as an exciting competitor had been set in motion.
Renato would spend the vast majority of his spare time training BJJ. He was guided by one goal, to eventually become a jiu jitsu world champion. In 2016 as a brown belt, he would achieve this goal.
After visiting Las Vegas to prepare for more competition, he would meet and train with the legendary Robert Drysdale. During that training camp for the IBJJF Pan American's that year, Drysdale would invite Canuto to become one of the instructors at his academy in Vegas. He would earn his black belt from his father that same year.
Now as the head instructor of Checkmat Las Vegas and also a key member in the "Desert Squad" made up of jiu jitsu phenoms like Mikey Musumeci and Roberto Jimenez, Renato Canuto is poised for even greater success in the future.
