Stephen Kesting has teamed up with Jiu Jitsu greats like Emily Wok and Brandon “The Wolverine” Mullins to record many technique instructional videos. Stephen has also published articles in magazines and e-books, he has been involved with many podcasts and he has filmed youtube instructionals. He received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Marcus Soares, who is an 8th degree black belt directly under the tutelage of the famous Carlson Gracie. Growing up in Vancouver Canada, Stephen had a thrill for sports and fitness. As an 8 year old Stephen became interested in martial arts as his love of Bruce Lee movies weighed heavily on his aspirations to become a martial artist. Stephen explained seeing a book while he was shopping with his mother called “Ninja Clan Of Death '' a book about ninjutsu, after persuading his mother to buy it for him he read it 30 or 40 times. Stephen’s mother was very protective and did not allow him to begin any sort of combat sports. In Stephens words he lobbied his mother so he could train in Judo, Stephen wrote his mother a letter that read “I want to go to Judo, it’s not fighting, i want to go now or i will go on strike” 3 years later by the age of 11 Stephen was finally allowed to begin Judo, this was the start of his martial arts journey.

Stephen Kesting has dedicated his life to furthering his knowledge of teaching martial arts. Stephen Kesting’s Best Fight of All Time?
There is very little reported in the way of competitive fights for Stephen Kesting as his early competitions are incredibly hard to source. For Stephen, his fights always came in the form of learning new and complicated disciplines. He spent many years training in full contact martial arts like Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do and Chinese Kung Fu.
Other fights that Stephen participated in were self imposed like fighting the rapids by way of canoe and kayak. Stephen had a passion for paddling as he regularly practised the form. Stephen once paddled 1000 miles by himself in a canoe in the arctic. Stephen also talked about one of the fights of his life when he paddled down a river in his canoe. He paddled across a series of waterfalls that cascaded down to a 15 foot drop, navigating his way down the steep waterfalls Stephen lost his form. He rolled over on three separate occasions, and on the last roll he flipped upside down, plummeting down the 15 foot drop and hitting into a hard rock face with extreme velocity. Although Stephen would escape any serious injuries, with his minor bumps and bruises it would force him to reconsider the time he spent paddling. Through this event it forced Stephen to make a hard choice and put more time into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as he stepped away from paddling at such a high intensity.

There is limited information regarding losses for Stephen Kesting, as Stephen is predominantly a teacher of martial arts. Throughout his training in various disciplines, he has talked on many podcasts explaining his experience with full contact combative sports. Stephen has reported the many knocks, cuts and bruises he has received during full contact training.

Although he has suffered many ongoing minor injuries, his conditioning due to his high output of training has left his body in an extremely strong position. Stephen has an excellent ability to rehab and recover from any setback and challenge he has faced along the way.

Stephen Kesting is still an active teacher of martial arts, as he still hosts many seminars and films many instructionals with other high profile fighters like;Marcelo Garcia, Vitor Ribeiro, Emily Wok and Brandon Mullins just to name a few.
