Diana Wang is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner with a very unique and specialized background. When she isn’t on the mat working to attack the joints, she is a Doctor of Physical Therapy as well as an athletic trainer certified in the state of California. Her career as an athletic trainer has spanned years, and originally found Dr. Wang working side-by-side with athletes at the Division 1 level.

Since her early time as an athletic trainer, Wang has moved on to work with professional athletes from various sports. Dr. Wang fell in love with traditional martial arts at a young age, but found Jiu Jitsu as an adult. The discipline and confidence that come from Jiu Jitsu are appealing to anyone;doubly so for someone like Wang, who is an expert on the human body. Recently, Diana has found a productive way to merge her two areas of expertise by becoming an athletic trainer for IBJJF tournaments in her area.
Diana instantly noticed that grappling athletes who injured themselves in Jiu Jitsu did not have a tried-and-true path to rehabilitation. Disconnected philosophies from different gyms and personal nuances had created a chaotic rehab landscape that was missing focus, unity, and efficacy. As a result of this trend, one of Wang’s businesses, Open Mat Physio, was created. It is their mission to help grapplers train harder, smarter, and for longer, with proven modalities that support their specific Jiu Jitsu goals.
Now, Wang’s focus is on building better grapplers through her work as a rehab specialist. She has even branched out from in-person and clinical work to create an instructional with BJJFanatics under the Open Mat Physio banner. The focus of her first product is on ACL rehabilitation, and can be useful to anyone who might have tweaked a knee during their time on the mat.
