Gevrise Emane is a world class Judoka and an Olympic Medalist in the 2012 Olympics. Gevrise was born in Yaounde, Cameroon. She then emigrated to France when she was just 2. She was raised in Neuilly-Plaisance in Seine-Saint-Denis as a citizen of France. Started training relatively late at the age of 13 and thus involved herself into competing at the junior level and caught on quickly to the ins and outs of the sport. She made quick progress in competitions and then joined INSEP in 2000 after a podium placement at the French junior championships. During her professional career she was coached and trained by former Olympic champion Cathy Fleury. Her height, 1.62 m, makes her a small judoka for her weight category where nearly all of her opponents stood over her by 7 to 8 centimeters. To keep up, she focused on a more technical judo approach, based on explosiveness and rhythm.

Gevrise is no stranger to tough opponents. One of the more popular opponents she has faced is the world famous Ronda Rousey. Gevrise faced and defeated Rhonda in 2007 at the World Judo championships in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Defeating Ronda by points in the final match. Gevrise ended up winning gold and earned her first world championship. Ronda has since entered and finished her career in the UFC. Gevrise Emane holds titles such as three world championships, 2007, 2011, 2015, winning 2nd in 2005 and 3rd in 2013. She placed 3rd in the Olympic games in 2012. Emane was European champion in 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2016. She earned an Olympic Bronze Medal in the 2012 London Olympics and has had 16 podium placements with 8 wins on the IJF world tour. Gevrise is also an activist, being a part of associations that combating hunger, partnering with Adidas to renovate schools in Senegal, bringing awareness to the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity and much more. Gévrise Emane was also a program consultant to teach competitors on how to come back after a loss. Gevrise Emane has won enough to make her mark in the history books of the sport of Judo.
