Who Is Gevrise Emane?

Gevrise Emane is a world class Judoka and an Olympic Medalist in the 2012 Olympics. Gevrise was born in Yaounde, Cameroon. She then emigrated to France when she was just 2. She was raised in Neuilly-Plaisance in Seine-Saint-Denis as a citizen of France. Started training relatively late at the age of 13 and thus involved herself into competing at the junior level and caught on quickly to the ins and outs of the sport. She made quick progress in competitions and then joined INSEP in 2000 after a podium placement at the French junior championships. During her professional career she was coached and trained by former Olympic champion Cathy Fleury. Her height, 1.62 m, makes her a small judoka for her weight category where nearly all of her opponents stood over her by 7 to 8 centimeters. To keep up, she focused on a more technical judo approach, based on explosiveness and rhythm.
