The 411 Leg Lock Instructional by Alan Shade

Alan Shade was a committed athlete in pursuit of becoming a Taekwondo Black belt. As he journeyed through the world of Martial Arts he met his future wife Demitra Shade. She was an avid lover of Martial Arts and a Black belt in Taekwondo, who now holds a 6th Degree. Alan would benefit from Demitra's expertise in the striking art, which ultimately led to him becoming a Taekwondo Black belt. Demitra and Alan would create their own academy called Top Notch Taekwondo Martial Arts, where they focused on teaching Taekwondo and Jiu Jitsu classes for kids, ladies, professional athletes and civilians looking for self defense, fitness or just to be a part of a family community. Alan was becoming an outstanding teacher of Martial Arts, but he wanted more as his thirst for knowledge grew stronger.

Alan intensified his training into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as he improved significantly in the groundwork aspect. Alan wanted to compliment his striking proficiency with a grappling based Martial Art, so training in Jiu Jitsu for its high level of complexity was a natural progression. Alan started training in 2006, and by 2007 he was awarded his Blue belt from JD Shackfield. Alan decided to affiliate with Roy Dean in a long distance relationship, as he began to train five times a week at his newly opened academy. Four years later in 2011 Alan was promoted to Purple as he continued teaching Jiu Jitsu classes at his Top Notch Academy. Alan was learning fast as his improvement was tremendous, and by 2014 Roy Dean would hand Alan a Brown belt.

After his promotion to Brown belt, Alan would become extremely serious with his aspirations to become a certified Black belt instructor. Alan would continue to train extensively under Roy Dean and by 2016 Alan was honoured by Roy and promoted to the rank of Black belt. Alan was ecstatic to be able to grade students to the higher levels now he was a Black belt. Alan continued teaching Jiu Jitsu and Taekwondo out of Top Notch Academy, as his students were blessed to have an instructor with such a high level in multiple Martial Arts. In 2019 Alan was awarded his first degree on his Black belt as he continues to persevere towards becoming a Martial Arts legend. Alan now shares his knowledge and expertise with many of his students at his new academy Elite Martial Arts in Nevada Las Vegas.

Alan Shade's Martial Arts Beginning!

Alan Shade grew up in Southaven Mississippi in the United States of America, and as a kid he was raised to be tough. Alan played multiple sports when he was young including Football and Baseball. Alan started his journey into Martial Arts after an incident in the second grade. Alan was on the school bus when another kid said he wanted his seat. After Alan had rightfully declined, the kid punched Alan in the nose. Alan suffered from racial abuse every day to the point where it was non-stop. Alan's mother began to worry and decided that Alan needed to learn self defense, so Alan began training in Karate. Alan kept training in Karate until he was promoted to Brown belt under Don Krynshaw and Robbie Bitter.

Alan would spend some significant time away from Martial Arts due to an ongoing tumor inside his jaw. Alan's mother would not allow him to get back into training, so he spent several years away from the sport. Alan finally moved out of home when he was 19, he got a job to pay for rent and Martial Arts classes and started training in Taekwondo. Alan entered a lot of tournaments where it was heavily points orientated, but he continued to improve at the Martial Art. Alan was then introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by one of his friends who had done 4 months of Gracie Combatives training. Alan would spend time with his friend helping him with his stand up game. After weeks of heavy sparring he decided to have a grappling round with his friend, and to his amazement his friend who was 60 pounds lighter squashed him and choked him out. Alan knew he needed to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so he began training in the art.

Alan began training through an online curriculum, where he practised the BJJ techniques with his friend. After 6 months of training he realised that he needed more training partners to roll with, so he found a BJJ school to join up with. After spending some significant time there, he earnt his Blue belt and the harsh tradition that went with his school's promotion. Alan was choked unconscious by his main training partner with a Peruvian Necktie, which was the tradition for earning his belt. Shortly after, Alan's coach was moving to Las Vegas to take on a position with Team Couture so Alan had to make a new plan moving forward. Alan and his wife decided to buy some mats and teach Taekwondo and a Jiu Jitsu program. Alan sought out Roy Dean and formed a long distance affiliation with him, and Alan began his rise towards his Black belt.
