More About John Gutta’s Career

As he was growing up, John was obsessed with professional fighting. While in high school John weighed around 300 pounds and didn’t really play sports. When he was the Ultimate Fighter for the first time, he was hooked and thought it was the coolest thing he had ever seen. While looking for colleges he discovered that Iowa had a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program and made up his mind that he wanted to do it. He worked hard and by the time he got to college he had gotten down to 170 pounds. As he started to train and quickly pick up knowledge and skill, he began training other people.

Fast forward all these years later, John is now a first degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt as well as a decorated competitor. He serves as the head coach at Tipping Point Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and has also served in other prestigious coaching positions at the University of Iowa as well as Miletich Fighting Systems.

Aside from his coaching career, his career as a competitor is just as impressive. He is an elite competitor who has won numerous championships including gold medals at every belt at IBJJF events, and has traveled all over the world to compete. The years of his diverse teaching and competition background have given him the ability to develop an analytical approach to the sport of Jiu Jitsu, which has allowed him to serve students at any level, from students training on their first day all the way to UFC veterans.
